Just imagine we would have a Re Captcha recognition (maybe even only for hotfile).
Hotfile would then just change their page to kill the JD plugin and the game starts from zero:rolleyes:
JD can solve many other captchas, yet the file hosts haven't blocked JD (that I know). If that wanted to take the trouble I suppose that it wouldn't be hard to block JD, considering it's open source they could track any developments. They just don't bother because JD users are still a small minority of downloaders. So the more JD is promoted, the more likely it is that a host will get annoyed and block it....

I do think it's hopeless to try to solve Recaptcha though. For one it's very hard -- it's been used to protect big sites, not just file hosts, and has been a target of spammers and crackers for a months or years. Anyone who could solve it could make a lot of money selling the solution to Russian spammers, say, or offering it to Google as a white hat. And if it should be cracked, they would change it immediately.

I guess again that most file hosts just don't care about this as long as that sell their ads and aren't losing too much bandwidth to leeches (like us).

Sorry, i always gotta write this again^^
It's the uploaders who choose the hosts, not the downloaders. Often we have no choice if we want the file. And I'm not going to anything to the hosts, because
  1. I'm cheap
  2. I don't trust them
  3. none of them has everything I want
  4. they can shut down without any notice
  5. I don't have Paypal
  6. my wife would give me a hard time when she saw the credit card bill.

Anyway, if file hosts all used uncrackable captchas I'd probably start using torrents, or maybe Usenet. I've avoided torrents because of concerns about being tracked, but I could spend $5 a month and get a VPN IP, or a similar charge for a decent Usenet service. But I'm not going to pay a file host.

@Gweilo
So you gotta ask the uploadrs why they use such hosts which make it complicated for you to download 100% automated
Using the hosts creates he problem of having so solve those captchas.
Not using those hosts doesn't even create the problem with the captchas->Problem solved (it doesn't even exist then).

You're being silly.

The uploaders don't care if I have to use a captcha. They use whatever host is convenient for them, maybe one they get some credit for.
Often I'm downloading a file posted months or even years ago, the links might be copied from someone else's post on another site, uncredited. I have no idea who originally posted it.
They're probably not going to see or answer any question I ask, and if they did they'd probably just say "buy a premium". Why should they spend hours uploading a file to a different host because I don't like to spend 10 seconds doing a captcha? It would be very rude of me to ask them to do such a thing.

The choice of host is by the UPLOADER. We have no leverage, we have to deal with what they want to do.

If you're downloading the latest episode of Lost, you can find it on every host or file sharing method. But more obscure stuff, you just do not have that choice.

Paul,

We will download from multiple hosts or buy premium. Some people will set-up "Premium exchanges" where they share the cost of a premium account, but only one can be connected at a time.

The top two hosts Rapidshare (the bulk of the traffic) and mediafire do not have Captchas (Rapidshare gave up and mediafire prefers the traffic to keeping us out). The other top hosts we have AC for. Hotfile has only been on the scene for about a year and their growth is phenomenal. But most of the growth of Hotfile, Mediafire, and Megashare is because Rapidshare has lost about 1/3 of their traffic in the last year. The limitations on premium users are causing many uploaders to use multiple hosts.

Hotfile only seems to be using reCaptcha for files from around 100MB to 200MB. Files for full TV episodes are bigger and most other downloads are smaller. They are trying to catch the "Cheating affiliates" (there is a big jump in pay for a 100MB file relative to a smaller file, and it doesn't pay for cheaters to cheat on files larger than 200MB).

It would be optimal for us if uploaders who know about this would divide their files into volumes that are 99 000 000 bytes or smaller. Larger files could be 200MB or larger. They should not lose money doing that.

We have to educate the uploaders.

Cool

Nice post, summarising the hotfile phenomenon.

@Gweilo
I am not silly, i know that they all wanna earn by uploading.
Well i personally don't like that system.
Whatever, they wanna earn but using hosts which give them money the hosts are often slow for freeusers.
....so buying premium would be the next thing.
Waiting for a Re Captcha recognition which is far far (far far far far...) away or will never come won't help^^

As I said, the two biggest sites do not use any Captcha (partly convince by JD).

The "Free" sites that live by advertising are the ones with a reasonable complaint against JD. The rest pay by the 1000 downloads in order to encourage people to buy premium.

When Rapidshare started becoming restrictive with their premium customers and uploaders, a lot of uploaders went looking for an alternative. Hotfile outbid the rest (slightly) and they were very convenient until November 2009, when they adopted reCaptcha. Since then, Hotfile's growth has slowed and MediaFire's growth has increased. They went from anonymity to #2 in under 6 months.

Meanwhile, MegaPorn and their three little sisters continue to grow due to the problems at Rapidshare. It does not hurt that MegaPorn does not police their uploads for copyright infringement as tightly as Rapidshare and Hotfile. They also have view on demand (this started with a separate site IceFilms, but now MegaVideo and MegaPornVideo are up and running). Since most men have 4 of the 5 necessities of life, these sites provide #5.

LOL, I think in Africa and some other parts of the planet they think differently about the subject. They would prefer to have some water and food supply hosts.

I guess I should have stated "Most of these men ...".

Except for governmental interference, there is sufficient food and water in almost every settlement/town/city in Africa. The current Somalian Genocide gives Africa a bad name.

I don't know of a civilized country other than the US in which children go to be hungry at night (I guess it must be our communism). China and India have conquered Hunger for over 2 giga-people.

At this moment there are 1.02 billion hungry (malnutritioned) people on this planet. Look at this "World Hunger Facts 2010" map on "**External links are only visible to Support Staff**. It seems that most are in Asia and the Pacific.

And yes, you're right, harmful economic systems are the principal cause of poverty and hunger. Greed and corruption of a powerful elite are the main causes of harmful economic systems.

Good morning.

I am brand new to JDownloader and I have seen several discussions related to the problems of getting the anticaptcha to break through Hotfiles recaptcha system for free users. I have tried playing around with the anticaptcha settings but each and every time I try to download a file from hotfile I have to enter the captcha every time, guaranteed.

It was Jdownloader's ability to recognize wait times for free downloads and to deal with captchas which origiingally drew me to download and install the application. However, its not really turning out to be the big solve all that I thought it would. Having said that its still better than many other download managers as net transport and Flashget both require to click on the link, doing the captcha (where required) and then copying the download link into the manager - JDownloader thankfully takes care of that, removing a tedious step from the mix.

Anyhow, I am an IT troubleshooter, but not at programming level. Is there any sort of light at the end of the tunnel in relation to the captcha business on Hotfile?

In the meantime as Hotfile's monthly subscription is quite reasonable, I have taken out a months worth in order to clear the backlog of links I have (and there is a lot).

Many thanks

Clive

Sssshhhhtttt. I would not like this interesting thread to be closed by Psp. Don't ever mention H*tF*le and r*C*ptch* recognition in the same post. This has been discussed too many times on the board.

Please, read captcha thread.

The answer for the hotfile "problem" (it isn't really a problem for me...) can be found in the English Captchathread that remi just linked above.
It's written in so big letters (in the first post) that you really can't miss it

GreeZ pspzockerscene

....and no i won't ever clode this thread, its kinda interesting^^

The reCaptcha team's response to discussions around the net is interesting. They are frequently responding to vaporware. Thus, we never implement the software they are trying to protect against.

Thank you reCaptcha team, you save us a lot of work

willemijns, you're a smart member.

The rich criminals and other power elites will never be stopped with such silly measures.

Gogol's criminals are only stopping the weak, the poor and the disabled (bad eyesight and partially paralysed for instance) people.

i'm not sure to understood but never mind... this idea was explained 1/2 years ago in a forum and i believe it for az temporary issue...

When recaptcha will be cracked, next is NUCAPCHA...

if lot of services stays on nocaptcha or actual (easy) captchas they are a r€a$on

My comment also applies to all other means that block/stop/annoy people. The weak and the poor people will suffer. Corrupt or criminal* people will find or create solutions.

Luckily, jD can already automate many manual tasks.

*: the latter category (criminals) depends on the first category (power elites) because they only need to wait for new laws/rules in order to create new schemes to bend these laws/rules to their advantage
