I think it may be - I'm currently downloading from YouTube as I type this (with the exception of the members-only videos in my list which still don't work, but it was indicated earlier by staff this would still be an issue).

Hmmm... well I' glad it's working for some folks. I put a log in, maybe a mod can look into it.

Regular videos now work but ones which need a login and cookies are still "temporarily unavailable". I hope this isn't permanent.

I don't want to advertise anything. But so far the "4K Video Downloader" app has worked for me. While they work hard to fix this problem for JDownloader2; I'll be using 4K Video Downloader as long as it works.
I don't want to be optimistic because it's from a company with several apps, which even had to cancel a project [Stogram] due to the flaws it represented. And since social media platforms change a lot; this solution might not last long. In fact, "4K Video Downloader" has given me problems in the past and some updates do not fix the current bugs. But so far the current version has allowed me to download YouTube videos without errors.

For the moderators and managers; if this post breaks any rules [obviously] you can edit or delete it. My intentions are only to provide a temporary solution to those who need to download videos from YouTube.

Thank you

Default Major updates to participating services from Google

I'm convinced that the recent YouTube update is a major update to Google's services, including YouTube and Google Photos.

Because a phenomenon very similar to the YouTube download issue also occurred with Google Photos.

I used to create a program in Python that would save private image files uploaded to Google Photos by album.
Just like the current JD2, it used cookie information to achieve a pseudo-login, and I was able to obtain and download the page source just by entering the URL of the album page.
At some point, it became impossible to obtain the page source.
So I changed it so that I could open the album page in the browser, copy the source, and then run the program.

However, around the same time as the recent issue with JD2 downloading from YouTube, downloading from Google Photos became possible only via the browser.

Previously, files that required login information could be downloaded as long as you knew the URL of the image file.
However, now that third-party programs and external access are completely blocked, downloading is not possible even with cookie information.
This is very similar to the phenomenon where JD2 can no longer be used to save private videos that you have posted to YouTube.

I don't know if it's to limit downloads and reduce server load, or to eliminate security risks, but I suspect that Google has some intention behind making these strict and major changes to access.

In the future, it may become impossible to download videos that require login information.
I think this is a problem that cannot be solved even by updating the JD2 program.
The only way I can download my private videos is to click the options button for each video on the content page in YouTube STUDIO and select download.
However, this only allows me to save videos in HD quality (720p).

Finally, I would like to thank the JD2 staff for their continued hard work.

FWIW on the YT download situation. I have it working now (sort of).
They appear to be tracking access/download requests and throttling or disabling based on their own rules.

A few things that appear to help are:

1) Do not grab links while downloading. Too much activity ends in downloads being "unavailable". If that happens, then WAIT for the block to timeout.

2) Set a low chunk rate and low simultaneous downloads. That is 1 chunk and 4 simultaneous or 2 chunks and 2 simultaneous. Too much at once seems to lead to failures.

3) Keep a private session in a different browser program open to get your cookies. Don't use it for anything else. Even with that YT may drop your account for no reason. If so, then refresh browser session, grab cookies again, refresh YT account and some unavailable downloads may come back to life.

Nothing major, but that might help some who are getting YT failures.

Cheers!

The ban was lifted .

After a couple of hours downloading 1050 files and 4062 videos to go.
The settings are 7 files at once and the speed limit is set to 1.50 mbps.

And again getting the same error Sign in to confirm you're not a bot. BS again.

No offense to JDownloader and its team .Its not your fault. Its the evil google and its YT..
Cant wait for the breakup of that corrupt corp..

More FWIW on the YT stuff, this is just from observation.
It now seems that they are tracking based on user login.

Last night I went to renew the cookies and got an account unavailable error, with a 60 minute timeout. No amount of cookie refresh could fix it.

However you CAN get around it:

1) Create a second YT account with a new user ID, email, profile over 18, etc.
2) Start a new private session in an alternate browser program. Log in to YT with your second account in the second browser application
3) Use the second account user ID/email and cookies in account manager.
4) Everything should work fine ... until is doesn't.

5) After failure, start a private session in yet another browser program.
6) Using that other browser application, log in to YT with your first account, capture cookies and use the first user ID/email and cookies in JD account manager.
7) Everything should work fine ... until is doesn't.

8) At that point, swap back to your other YT account.
9) Alternate as necessary or on a daily basis.

Cheers!

Hi Wheezer.. Thanks for your tips. I have a few YT accounts .I never had to put any of my account info in JDownloader since its been running fine without it..

Its working fine now but I think I overload it with to many downloads at the same time and with the full bandwidth of my fiber ISP.

The mass downloading was overloading YT's server as it was flying through the files very fast as their server went to the autoprotect mode.

Most of the files in this batch of 5500 files are average of 3mb to 25mb .
I got the speed limit to 1mb and file setting to 5 files at once.Chunk rate is set to 1 chunk..

Got about 550 more to go .It should be done within 2 hour as long i dont get shut down..

I apologize to the Dev team since if it was more of a user problem.

Take care.

Update.getting Sign in to confirm you're not a bot.

Looks like a PITA to figure out how to sign in on with JDownloader since I never done it with anything yet.
The cookie thing looks like a nightmare to figure it out..

If it works for you without an account, then have at it.

If you need to use an account with JD, then it is not that difficult.

1) Start a browser program different than your main program. In that program add a cookie capture extension. I have had good success with "EditThisCookie". Make sure to enable the extension to run in private mode.

2) In the different browser program, start a private session and log in to YT. From the main YT page press the EditThisCookie icon and use the right arrow to export cookies. You will see a message stating "Cookies copied to clipboard"

3) In the JD account manager, select YouTube as the account. For the USERNAME enter your user ID or email for that account. For PASSWORD, select the stars and use PASTE to drop in the cookies. That's it. All done.

4) If the YT account times out, just refresh the private YT browser page, grab the cookies again and paste into JD. Refresh time takes maybe 15 seconds.

I've found that using a private window with a second account in a different browser program seems to work well. Just leave that windows alone and don't do anything with that account in other browsers. It may work differently based on OS, browser program, phase of the moon or other factors. This just seems to work for me.

Cheers!

Thanks again Wheezer for your help.

I'll look into it ..It looks easy as you explained it..

Its running after the couple hours stop...
I only do bulk YT downloads a few times a month when i do a complete channel download.

Other then that I only do about 25 videos daily.

Take care...

Thanks for working on fixing the YT downloader so quickly.

...Is this a bad time to point out that some playlists also aren't working properly? ^_^;;

I've noticed that JDownloader has a problem with some playlists when it is trying to get more than the first 100 videos from them, resulting in a "Plugin defect" error, and not a single video from that list parsed.

This would be somewhat manageable, if restricting the playlist/channel crawler max limit to "100" circumvented the issue (I often have it set to "-1"), but it doesn't for playlists where one or more of the first 100 videos are skipped (as a duplicate).

I found that out by changing the crawler max limit around and noticing that an affected list with 1 duplicate video would work for crawler max limit 99, but not 100. And as mentioned, crawler set to "-1" fails on even more lists.

As you can imagine, when downloading a lot of playlists, many of them will have removed/deleted/duplicate videos, and thus will fail because of this.

Or is that something that only happens for me? I just updated my JDownloader before posting this, so I do have the current version.

EXAMPLE PLAYLIST with 1 duplicate in the first 100 videos: **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

It is currently being worked on problems with internally/silently failing login leading to issues with downloads of videos that require login.

It would be great if there was an option to save the audio from a YouTube video in MKA format, with the chapters inserted (AKA timestamps, chapters, titles), in the same way as an MKV file with chapters.

Hi,

I just discovered the "temporarily unavailable" problem with age-restricted YT videos when using the cookie method and found this thread.

All the videos added to my download list would show that error message.

I then unchecked my Youtube account in the JD Account manager and started the downloads again, one after the other. They all downloaded fine, with the YT account unchecked, after they had been added to the list with the account checked and the cookie added.

Edit: this worked with the age-restricted videos from one account. I tried it again with another account, it didn't work, aven after refreshing the cookies.

Default Changing youtube variants changes videos to images

For me personally, I usually download videos at two resolutions: 1080p if I want "highest quality" (because I have a 1080p monitor and devices), or 480p if I don't need much quality. A few times I pick 720p if there is no 480p available

1. Some times I add many videos from different youtube channels to the linkgrabber, then I join all of them in one single package

2. I right click the package and in the menu I go to "youtube.com" > "change video variant"

3. It opens a new menu, where I click the 854*480 H264 AAC variant. However, under the "links" tab in this menu, it says 1/2, 78/94, etc., which means that only a fraction of them are available in that resolution (or it can be 100% availability if I'm "lucky")

4. In this simplified example, I click "select" even though it says (1/2), but JD changes a video to 480p and the other becomes an image instead. At this point I have to go through all the images one by one and right click the variant to select another video resolution manually, or 720p which is the closest to 480p but not horrible like 360p

Note: before clicking "select" there is a checkbox that says "Auto-choose best alternative", but it doesn't make any difference if I select it or unselect it

Example of 2 links to reproduce this problem:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Thank you for the support ^^

Is there any fix in sight for this? I'm still experiencing it. And in my case it seems to affect ALL YouTube videos, and still happens regardless of whether or not I'm logged in to YouTube in JDownloader. Sometimes the problem goes away for a little while (usually after a JDownloader update), but then it always comes back.

Hello.

I have a query around the audio language problem where YT files that have multiple languages are getting downloaded as non-English.

It looks like you guys are working on the problem and have added some features to try to fix it, but for me they haven't worked so far.

I tried to download this file:

**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

but it came in with Arabic audio, presumably because "ar" is first alphanumerically.

I then tried again but this time by adding all of the English language (en-US) variants. Unfortunately they all had Arabic audio again so it looks like this feature isn't working yet (and as I'm sure you're aware, there're also no filter options under Settings/Plugins for audio language yet).

I then scrolled to the top of the variants list and noticed that there were two audio files and an mp4 video file with audio bitrates of 96kbit/s. I downloaded all three and found that their audio language was English.

The problem with the video file was that it was set to only 480p (which would be 360p if it had been in a non-TikTok aspect ratio) and I also couldn't find any variants on the list that had higher video resolution and English audio.

I can make my own higher resolution video with English audio by using MKVToolNix but would obviously prefer to avoid the faff in future if possible.

As a temporary solution while you're still working on a full one, is it possible to get JD2 to download the user's requested video file resolution and then mux it together with one of the two above 96kbit/s English audio files at the end of the download?

I know not everyone here's first language is English, but it seems likely that most users would prefer English to Arabic while we're waiting for the full solution that will allow us to choose our preferred one.

(I'm also wondering if the three files above might be in English due to that being my language setting, and that users with a difference language setting might find that their equivalents end up being in their own language instead. Would be useful if that were the case I guess.)

Again, many thanks for working on these kinds of problems for us. Hope this helped and didn't just tell you a bunch of stuff you already knew!

Unhappy It completely does not work with goodbyedpi

In fcking russia youtube is blocked so i use goodbyedpi for youtube to work properly.
chrome works perfectly with goodbyedpi, firefox works perfectly with goodbyedpi but jdownloader does not work at all! no one youtube video can be downloaded but i can watch them in browsers.
Why is this happening!?

Maybe due to how they change components of the headers or packets at a quick guess. Jiaz will need to probably look into this to confirm and or apply the required fixes

It looks like you guys are working on the problem and have added some features to try to fix it, but for me they haven't worked so far.
Since it doesn't look like anyone is actively working on this, I would suggest at least implementing my original suggestion, which is very minor in terms of code changes and simply downloads the default track instead of the first one on the list. I don't know how that would play with the changes already made to the code, but in my testing it did work and also seems to work on video with a single audio track.

Merged YT threads.

@YNN
We are aware of this.
Please either be patient or implement it on your own.

Thanks for the code but where is the "collectMapsFromPlayerResponse" thingy that I'm meant to copy and paste it into?

Am also a bit surprised that no-one on the dev team is working on this*. I got the impression from this thread and from some new stuff in JD2 that they were, and my post above was just to help out with it a wee bit.

No biggie though, for me it's just a nice-to-have rather than an essential.

[*Edit: Just read pspzockerscene's post properly. Not sure why my brain didn't take it in the first time....]

I guess here:
Code:
package org.jdownloader.plugins.components.youtube.YoutubeHelper.java
Keep in mind that I can't provide any more help/support for 3rd party code.

Who said this?
You can check our SVN repo and monitor our changes there.
Then please also keep in mind that:
- We support thousands of other websites via plugin; those also want to be maintained.
- YT is blocking more and more 3rd party tools/downloaders, see e.g.: stadt-bremerhaven.de/youtube-hat-invidious-vollstaendig-blockiert/
- Apart from plugin work, there are enough other things to do, see todays' changelog (the changelog does not contain any plugin related code changes but there were a lot, see SVN changes or just open yourJD install dir, update JD and see the recently modified files in the plugin folders)
- Anyone is free to contribute code related to YT
- JD is a universal download tool. You may find better alternatives if your main use case is the download of YT content.

Thumbs up Saying Thanks

Just wanted to offer up a sincere thank you to the devs/mod teams and all the folks who keep JD2 going.

Even I fell victim to the "....it's been weeks now, is it gonna get fixed?" trap, with the most recent YouTube bombs that dropped. All told I think I was not able to d/l YT vids for about 3 weeks to a month. As someone who d/ls daily, I hope you can understand how upsetting it can make someone. And yes, while there are indeed "other alternatives" for d/ling YT vids, as someone who has primarily used JD2 for this I plan to stick with it. This is the only program I've DONATED money to, not bought outright. Because I use it daily, and it suits my needs. It's great!!! I hope you all can understand how we rely on this program, and can sympathize with us when weeks go by and it's just seemingly broken. It's easy to get caught up in a whirlwind off uncertainty. Most of us certainly mean no ill will or rudeness when we're checking in.

I was so happy when JD2, on my end at least, started dling YT vids again. I honestly don't even think an update fixed it on my end, as I was installing every update when they came and when it started working it was not right after an update - it was a few days later. i DID restart my VPN, so maybe that fixed it? I'm not sure, and I'm not trying to figure it out either. What I AM trying to do is, again, give my sincere thanks to the folks making JD2 work. It was SUCH a relief when I saw "downloading" instead of "temporarily unavailable". I was so relieved, so happy. Felt like life got back to normal.

So yes. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the folks making it happen. For any work now, to the past issues, and to the (we know they're coming) future YT shenanigans. Thank you all so much. I know for a fact we are all thankful for the work you put in. This is a great program, and your work IS appreciated!!!

I duplicate every single word said by enjikari above.

Thank you, very much, JD2 team!
