Default Can't find downloaded files anywhere (Mac OS X Leopard)

In a nutshell, I created a folder to download my files on the desktop and now the folder isn't showing up on the desktop and pressing cmd-click and 'open directory' doesn't work either. I also can't make a folder with the same name on the desktop as apparently there's already a folder with that name in existence.

I think what my problem is is that I created the folder through the path directory in JDownloader. I'm used to using Windows and this usually just creates a new folder itself but maybe Mac is different. Anyway, is there anyway for me to get to my files or am I out of luck and will I have to re-download?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe the folder is done under different username? permission forbidds to see that folder?
or its still there just not visible on desktop (icon moved outside visible area)
what does the terminal say about the folder?
what does the file explorer say?

No it wouldn't be under a different username - there's only one user on this computer (and I checked the download path and it's my username).

Finder doesn't detect it so I doubt that's the folder is out of the range of visibility.

How do I check with terminal?

open terminal
ls -la (google can help too)
then you should see hidden folders too

the folder must exist, else JD would report errors during downloading
