Default DownloadList.zip and LinkCollector.zip Update Control

Hi,
Over time, and I get more familiar with JD2, I am realizing that there is a bottleneck in its download speed. This bottleneck is the number of times and/or conditions determining when DownloadList.zip and LinkCollector.zip files are updated. Normally, this isn't a problem since the update is amazingly fast (kudos to the programmers!).

However, when the queue is significant (1000's or 10000's items), the sizes of those files become very large e.g. 0.1 to 0.5 Gb(yes, Gb).

Currently, the (I am guessing) hardcoded settings are to update those files quite frequently. However, in so doing, the collection of items and/or download of items slows to a crawl for the duration of the HDD write operation. Not to mention that these operations are needlessly wearing down the HDD. Sure, if you have an SSD, that isn't a problem. However, most of us still have HDDs and will have them for the foreseeable future.

So... here is the request.

To add two new settings in Advance Settings that will allow a user to control how often those files are updated. As to the modality of such control, I'll leave that to the Devs. It could be by Time, File Size, Number of Items, etc. Whatever is easier!

And yes, I do understand that there is a tradeoff between number of updates and safety; e.g. if the number of updates is quite low, then there is a risk that newly acquired links will be lost. I get that, but I think that that decision should rest in the hands of the users. In any case, even if those settings are implemented, they could be initialized at default values, which are identical to the hardcoded values in use today.

Tx!

Hi,

have you already checked out the advanced settings mentioned in our help article on this topic?
Doesn't that already fit your needs?
