In my experience for the last month or so, Instagram has shown to be much quicker to issue bans as a result of linking accounts to Jdownloader, even through the cookie method.

After testing multiple Instagram accounts by linking to Jdownloader via the cookie method, Instagram will issue a verification request after only 1 minute of use. Then, after verifying and attempting use with Jdownloader just one more time, a full ban is issued on the account.

I don't know if this has been the case for other users, but it is definitely not practical to make all new accounts to use Jdownloader for one minute before a ban. If anyone else has experienced this, it would be helpful to know if it may be linked to some sort of IP ban. It may be worth experimenting with a VPN if this isn't a widespread issue, but I'd like to get a bit more insight before going through the hassle of creating a new account with a whole new email address for that purpose only to be banned in seconds.

On the account manager page, I see there is a free/no account option, but I have never been able to successfully grab any Instagram links for download without a real account linked. Are there any extra steps for getting that option to work? If not, are there any other ways to avoid Instagram account bans when doing this with Jdownloader?

The cookie login method has never been any way to avoid account bans.
We simply introduced it because IG kept adding new login steps and adding cookies will get around all of them so it was more reliable.

While there is no definite solution, I did answer this in some forum posts and went more into details especially regarding Instagram settings you could try out.

Their bot detection is a blackbox and will always be.
You can try other open source tools like "Instaloader" (see github.com) if you're lucky those will contain some mechanics to avoid bans.

Serverside limitation of instagram and there is nothing you can do about it.
If you keep opening instagram links in your browser without being logged in, IG will usually ask you to login quite quickly...
