WinXP SP3, Java 6u12 installed, other java progs (e.g. Aptana) works fine.
Executing "java -jar -Xmx512m JDownloader.jar" in console returning such an error:

Cool

It's probably your firewall blocking access to the Internet. In jD versions higher than 0.4. this is the most common problem.

Please, could you add java.exe and javaw.exe to the exclude list of your firewall.

Do you see a javaw.exe process in your task manager? If it is related to the jDownloader application, please kill it, before you start jD again.

(To support people : please, add this item to the FAQ)

Updated to Java 6u14 - still not working. I guess problem is not in Java...

Furthermore, I run it on the Virtual PC on a clean system and... it works! Strange... since it's the only java application failed to operate. Perhaps it uses some wary special routines that not run on some environments...
