I have used the search and found a few threads about this topic, but none was really correct.

SO I considered trying that again here with a different angle.

I'd like to use JDownloader to download the audio of a video (a song, for example) only.

Under a few JDownloader installations and checking the plugin settings, I'm only offered at max some low quality

My example:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff** (don't judge the song it is what it is, and I like that)

under Jdownloader:
max available ogg (claims to be ogg 152kb) the downloaded file is 4.6mb large and subjective by listen into a low quality not even sure if 128kbit

Counter test:

one of those downloaders
downloaded file .mp3 6.3M large and by quality 192kb and by listening of a much higher quality.

Is there in JDownloader a limit of the downloaded audio file?
could anyone cross-check and confirm that please

edit: I just downloaded the max available video 720p which has only 126kb audio inside.
I'm unsure where the better quality audio from the downloader comes from.

This video has the following audio qualities:
ogg in vbr49, vbr65 and vbr128
aac in vbr96 and vbr128
so "best" is either ogg_vbr128 or aac_vbr128, best depends if you prefer ogg or aac codec.
converting into mp3 will always result in additional loss of quality

in your case most likely the base for conversion is the aac_vbr128 one
