Smile web interface GUI

I have been using jdownloader for years now and I LOVE IT. I am a bit disappointed with the web interface, after toying around with utorrents web interface. I have seen things around the forums asking for a full featured web gui. I would love to see that happen soon. I have a degree in computer engineering and am pretty proficient in java. I would be willing to contribute to this development in anyway that I can.

Is this something that can be done? Or is there a lot of backend work that will need to be done first?

I would like to be able to install jdownloader on an ubuntu server with no gui (as that is where my storage is located) and access the program through a web interface. This way I would not have to transfer everything I download to the server.

Thanks a bunch for the consideration
Keep up the good work

Our next major version will hopefully have a completely new webui. While the work on the new webui hasn't officially begun, the backend work has. api controlling functions (not finished), and jsapi (not finished), which will be used as integration with the new webui. Your most welcome to contribute to the project, use the link given by tony to get started, this is a guide for eclipse but should contain relevant project imports required for the other IDE's also. The only project not present is svn://svn.jdownloader.org/jdownloader/jdjsapi as it's newer than the guide.

@darkapec: In fact you should be able to PM someone without writing posts. Users do this from time to time when they didn't receive the activation email, for instance.

@Think3r I am not sure how they do it. I attempted to send a pm and it required me to have 5 post. Sorry to fill the forum with nonsense post, just was not sure how else to do it.

You're best to communicate over IRC, we have a developer channel which you can ask code related questions. Forum is all and good but it slow, and not real time (especially for new users, messages are delayed).

Why are posts for new members delayed? What's the delay?

I see spam almost every day. Do these guys get through by just waiting until the delay is over or are many spam attempts stopped before they reach the forum?

I believe its all automated using scripts, vbulletin is common platform it so its possible to make affective script for signing up + posting random stuff for or virus spreading. The delay for new users is x posts within y minutes or between posts can't quite recall, it's been a while since I've played with vbulletin.

I've already told psp and Think3r that the sort of spam I regularly see should be very easy to block. They (message and title) always contain the names of the usual spammer's brands like Pomme/Apfel (French/German translations) or Nikao (a known Finish brand). Also checking for the presence of at least two $ symbols should be sufficient. By putting these types of posts in quarantine I think all the spam posts I see can be blocked.

I know about the spam, and how to stop it though I'm not in any position to do anything about it. I was just replying to your question, how/why delays occur.

Provide a list of questions and let those who might know the answers to those questions answer them when they've the time. Maybe these answers can be used as documentation. It's much more efficient for all parties involved.
