Default Resume not working

The past several days I noticed on certain websites, Jdownloader2 could not predict the file size of streaming videos (Unknown). And if I interrupt the download before it completes, it will reset to zero. I figured it might be due to some changes made on the website. But today, Youtube is doing the same thing. I can stop a download midway and start again, and it will reset to zero. EVERY TIME.

What is going on?

if the download is via HLS it wont be resumable or wont know the filesize at this time.

I understand. No big deal here. But I do wonder what is up with Youtube. This problem apparently began late last night. Because when I woke this morning and checked downloads, it was still on the second video. Apparently, I kept dropping the connection, which caused it to reset to zero. This kept happening over and over. I tested this today by downloading 1 mb of video. Stopping. Starting. It resets to zero. This had never happened before. SO something has changed.

NOTE: I will add that if I download part of the video. Once I click STOP, it always shows 416kb downloaded. Whether I download 1mb or 17mb. Then of course, clicking start resets to zero downloaded.

with youtube they have like a hundred of qualities and formats (itags, see youtube plugin settings), some are standard volumes with audio video. some are dash (audio video separated), they also use HLS. I assume that's what you're downloading. I have no idea to why your connection drops without seeing a log from a failed session.

I basically download the same type of video from Youtube every time. 480p H264 MP4. Have been doing this for years now. No problems at all. This resume problem is unusual in my case. Just began happening late last night. Thanks.

My problems are happening with this link in particular.

We need a logfile after error has happened, see https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...d-session-logs
and then post the shown logID here

Hopefully I am doing this correctly. But I created a log for the past day. Here is the Log ID. The problem began occurring more than 24 hours ago. But it isn't really an "error". I am suspecting the problem began because of an update. I noticed a bunch of updates the past week, which seems unusual. Also, Xvideos.com is not seeing file sizes and is NOT resuming period. To confirm my theory, I turned on my other laptop which contains Jdownloader 2 that hasnt been updated in months, and it not only downloads Youtube videos WITH resume. Xvideos.com also shows file sizes and resumes as well.

Problem solved it seems. I transferred old plugins to the new Jdownloader directory and all works fine. So the updates apparently have screwed something up. So I am now afraid to update. Hopefully we can figure out what.

I am kind of illiterate when it comes to the technical jargon involving this program. But I have noticed in my old program, I can download even small chunks of a file. Regardless of what the host is. And it will resume easily. In the new program, even though transferring the old plugins has fixed the resume problem. Jdownloader seems to download files in larger chunks. For instance, I have to download at least 850KB in order to resume from it. And I can download 1.5MB and stop the program. I still falls back to 850KB. I can live with it. But I find it odd that my old program does not do that. Works fine. So I don't see where the updated program is justified.

Xvideos no longer can resume because of the different stream that is being used.
Older plugins used non reliable mp4 stream while now it uses HLS. HLS does not yet support resume
If you want we can add older mp4 stream again(that can resume).

It depends on your settings when JDownloader does write out the data.
Check Settings-Advanced Settings-
GeneralSettings.flushbuffertimeout
or
GeneralSettings.flushbufferlevel
only when buffer is flushed, JD can resume from that position

Please do not try to hack your plugins by mixing versions!
Better open tickets like this and inform us what doesnt work.

As for xvideos I've explained why it no longer resume. Plugin prefers hls over mp4 because of higher quality. But as suggested we can add support for old mode as well.

not just higher qualities. some of the http links do not work, even though they are provided.

For the link that I tested, only slightly bigger, same pixels, not worth the trouble.
For the ticket that leads to the change (https://svn.jdownloader.org/issues/84012), HLS links are also don't work.
We can try mp4 stream first, and if not available, use HLS.

@tony2long
hls obviously worked, at least when I created the support. I tested against many additional links to make sure I didn't break it for older/other links.

Some links are unstable. Works first time, then fails in browser as well.

Hi

Sorry for the late response. Updating the plugin has caused the same problem as before. No resume. It seems to me that if HLS doesn't allow resume at the present time, then it shouldn't be used at all. The latest update isn't preferring resumable MP4. Considering the amount of time wasted trying to submit logs and wait. It would also make sense to have the ability to undo updates quickly to allow the program to function properly. -- Joe

For the time being, i set up a batch file that will restore the Youtube plugin files after an update. Assuming the update didn't fix the problem. Thanks.

i would advise against that cooljoebay
youtube changed interface and large components (playlist parsing, filename and date, and other components are all missing).
find/identify the itags/quality reference that falls under hls and disable them.
