Exclamation JDownloader installer can contain Adware

EDIT by Think3r:
I want to refer to this JD staff statement in this thread. Thank you for your understanding.

=============================================================================================

As the title says, the install seems to come with unwanted ADWARE/Adware.Gen spyware/virus both from the JDownloader site itself and Softonic. Picked up by Avira. Is this a false positive or not?

in the installer there is an option to install external software, which would be classed by some AV as adware. Decline to install if your not wanting these features. Search the forum, there is plenty about this mentioned previously.

No option in the installer as Avira does not allow it to go as far as installing. A paid version would be good, save having to sneak crap like this in.

And I have searched the forum, the only reference I can find to external software references facemoods...which is not what Avira is flagging up.

Depending on your country, depends on the software it offers to install. About the other threads wasn't nessarily about the software (and it mentions more than facemoods), but the reasons behind including it. There won't be a paid version of this software. If your wanting to contribute you can donate some money via out mainpage http://jdownloader.org . As this project has significant costs it needs to derive income.

Disable avira, install, re-enable avira

Default Goodbye JDownloader

Despite choosing NOT to install all the malware you have in your installer - Babylon still got through somehow.

I have wasted several hours of my life removing this unwarranted adware junk, and this is from someone who is reasonably adept at using computers.

I have uninstalled your software and will no longer recommend it to others.

What a shame you ruined a decent program with malware.

Uberwolfe - You're right. Despite the exclusion/off/ of installing additional components of the program and install themselves as "some other add-ons"

Our Installer only installs Babylon if you accept it. If you deselect the bundling offer, then it won't be installed! I'm sorry that you had trouble with it. You could have asked here and we would have offered our help to remove it.

But in the end, please don't forget that JDownloader is free and we spend all our available time working on it!

Jiaz I understand that JDownloader is free and it takes a significant amount of work to maintain, but this is still no acceptable reason to deposit known malware junk onto your unsuspecting users..

All the other toolbars (Google, Yahoo etc) are easy to remove and don't hijack your system in the way Babylon does.. it spread itself across all 3 of my browsers and I was forced to undergo different procedures for each browser to remove it altogether.

It's actually still automatically re-inserting itself into my Internet Explorer even now. Thankfully I rarely use IE so it doesn't really bother me.

Plus, the misleading wording in the installer makes it easy to install it mistakenly.

All I ask is perhaps you should consider less invasive ways to get some return from your software.. I would be happy to support you guys, but this whole Babylon thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Uberwolfe - Free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - You can quickly remove unwanted additives/adware/Addon such as the browser or that lodged in the system.

Bills dont pay themself. DLC, Update, SVN and for the next Version is planned a Captcha exchange. They all running on servers, would you want that they get turned off? Or maybe a Paid-Version 20€/$ for JD and for Updates monthly 5€/$.
I don't now the life's of the Devs but maybe they have two choices make money with JD or stop working on JD and do normal work to make money for there lifes.

I dont like much that Installation things too, but first many freeware use something like that, second JD is a very good Download-Manager for free. And third we have the opportunity to choose an other software when we don't like so much the politic of the JD Devs.

At least the Devs do Teamviewer sessions if there is a problem with the uninstall of the third party software (or other problem which cant solved with this forum). I dont know any other freeware software with this support.
