Hello, I'm new to JDownloader so my apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I wanted to use a VPN so I paid for a month with NordVPN only to discover that I couldn't use it with JDownloader. Before I look at an alternative, compatible VPN, I'm wondering if there is a dynamic list somewhere here showing which VPNs are currently known to be JDownloader-friendly. I've Googled it and looked here but can't figure it out. Any suggestions are appreciated!

It should work just fine.

There is no such thing as a "compatible VPN".
You should be able to use any VPN service with JDownloader.

Which OS are you using and which steps did you do to try to use e.g. NordVPN?

I'm sorry, I'm clearly an idiot

I used the "automatic proxy detection" and this function didn't find any proxies, though I am successfully running NordVPN.

I have tried to enter manually now but am still having difficulty because of my limited knowledge of how these things work. The red down thumb is showing. I have the correct IP entered, my VPN username and password, but I didn't know what to do about the port (left is at default 8080) and unsure what type of protocol for the proxy - HTTPS, Socks etc. Is there an FAQ for this stuff?

This is 100% down to my ignorance. Please feel free to delete this thread!

Which OS are you using?
Are you using any kind of browser addon from NordVPN or only the application installed on your system?
In any case:
First just turn on the NordVPN software without doing any config changes in JD, then download a test-file and check if the IP displayed in JD matches the one from your VPN.
Also make sure that the VPN is working systemwide by checking your IP in browser e.g. using the following website: wieistmeineip.de
If that's the case, you do not have to change any proxy settings as long as your VPN application is running.

If that's not working, check the NordVPN FAQs/docs - I know that they do provide SOCKS proxys which you can simply add to the list of proxys in JD.
The required settings/ports should be listed in the NordVPN docs...

Only the one I've linked at the beginning of this post, no.
...and that one is quite basic.
As explained, most of all times it's enough to just turn on whichever VPN software you're using.
