Default Synology: non-responsive/slow

Jdownloader downloading works fine, but if I want to e.g go into the settings or add another download file, Jdownloader becomes non-responsive/slow. When I stop downloading, Jdownloader becomes responsive again. This happens on my PC with Linux, Windows, and my Mac mini M4 Pro.

This has been happening for months. I’ve tried every solution without luck.

My files are on a Synololgy 918+ NAS

Thanks

Please provide a screenshot of the about dialog, see https://support.jdownloader.org/de/k...tion-directory , when this is happening.
Have you tested if it also happens when you try to download to different location?

@Blu24: Issue lies with Synology. Getting similiar reports recently and all have Synology NAS and issue goes away when changing directory to non Synology. Also can find reports of issues with other (non JDownloader) Applications on the web. As this is not only with MacOS, I think the source of problem lies with Synology here

Update: I am deeply appreciative of the informative links provided. I have modified a few Synology SMB settings, and the changes appear to be functioning as intended.

Another issue I have been having for quite a while is the extremely slow unzipping process and extraction errors
“Extraction CPU Priority” setting is set to a high. I presume this is likely a Synology issue.

Thanks

Would be great if you can share with us, what you did and maybe where? so others with same setup/issues can try them as well

Have you tested if same *slow* extraction also happens when extracting locally? what extraction speed do you get?

Sorry for the delayed response. The fix was short-lived, but there’s still hope. I’m trying something else, and the results are promising so far. I need a few more days to confirm, but I’m 99.9% sure I’ve found a compromise.

Extracting 10GB:

*Synology 9mins

*Locally to my Mac mini M4 Pro 8 seconds

@Blu24: About extraction speed
-> Locally on Mac -> M4 Pro can reach 4-5 Gbyte/s speed
-> Network -> for 1Gbit/s connection, best is 100Mbyte/s But this heavily depends on latency/network stack/settings.....so expect about 10-50Mbyte/s on unoptimized environment.
-> there is your difference

Nothing to be sorry for. Please keep me updated

UPDATE

My non-responsive issues have been resolved.
I am now accessing the Synology NAS using NFS. Reconfigured my Auto Mounter software to use NFS.
I can confidently say that this alternative works 100% for those having issues with Synology.

@Blu24: Can you please provide some more details? I'm not familiar with that. I thought you're using samba/afs for network sharing with your NAS? NTFS is a filesystem, currently not knowing/understanding how these two come together

Setting up NFS on the Synology with MacOS

Please follow instructions outlined in steps 1 and 2.

* **External links are only visible to Support Staff**...

1 Followed instructions up until “Note: Don't forget to grant your users permissions to the shared folder”

2 Edit the NFS rules to suit your configuration - Replace wildcard ('*') your Mac ip address. DO NOT USE wildcard ('*')

Setting up NFS on your Mac

I use AutoMounter. I purchased it a few years ago. It’s a great app. I couldn’t get macOS integrated “connect to server” to work. If someone knows, please let me know.

@Blu24: It's a typo You're talking about/meaning NFS (network file system) and not NTFS (disk filesystem). So you've switched from Samba to NFS

Sorry, yes NFS
typos corrected.

Forgot to mention, I tried AFP but was having the same issues.

The links you provided were an invaluable assistance, as none of the recommended Samba workarounds proved effective. Subsequently, I considered exploring the alternatives of AFP and NFS.

I can't thank you enough for your patience and understanding.

We have to thank you for not *giving up* I think/hope the samba issue will be resolved soon as more are affected by this

For now NFS is perfect. It’s working extremely well, but I will be upgrading to the UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus, sometime in March
