We need more input and a log.
How many urls do you have in your JD? Which OS do you use? ... and so on ... GreeZ psp

That is by far not much.
As said, a Log would be good: Please post a log (log-id). Bitte poste einen Log (bzw. Log-ID). GreeZ pspzockerscene

Well then please at least post more information about your system.
How do you expect us to help without any information at all? I could tell you now that my JD uses much less memory ... but that won't help you GreeZ psp

what other info?
i wouldn't have any problem sending logs if you guys didn't log user/password information in plain text. Last edited by Tyler; 31.05.2017 at 00:51. |

How can you reproduce this issue, since when (jd version) does this happen, 32bit/64bit os, which Java do you use?

No idea, it just happens after i've had it open for a long period of time (probably a couple weeks at least this time), i don't turn my computer off and jdownloader is always on unless i restart it for being a memory hog.
i couldn't tell you the version of jdownloader as i don't keep track of that, i usually only update when i have a problem with a host. 64 bit version 8 update 131 |

post screen shot of the about window, it contains information about memory usage
also note that Java can pre-reserve allocations of memory, even though it isn't currently using it. This depends on the switches you provide on startup. The binary (exe) will do this for you or parse config file and set based on that, or automatically based on availability of system resources. Jiaz will respond tomorrow with the an offical answer. raztoki

Hi, thanks for the screenshot.
How many links do you have in list at this time? What hosts do you download from? Maybe some issue with specific plugin.

right now its only using about 900mb of ram. 147 links in download 306 in linkgrabber
though looking at the log file from when it was using over 2gb i did see these files that look rather large considering all the others are only a few hundred kb max. I don't have a twitter account in jdownloader so that's weird. also can you explain to me what the 3 numbers in the about tab for the java part are for? (782.82 MB/1.11 GB/3.54 GB on the screenshot i provided) Last edited by Tyler; 01.06.2017 at 21:17. |

You don't need a twitter account. But you've added/tried to add twitter links. Maybe via copy or you use deep decrypt and JDownloader does find twitter links.
782.82 MB/1.11 GB/3.54 GB: -782MB are currently used -> JDownloader currently uses that much memory -1.11GB are currently allocated -> 1.11GB-782MB=318MB are free -3.54GB are maximum size for allocation -> That's the maximum the java process is allowed to use You should check Linkgrabber sidebar, maybe you have hidden some filetypes/hosters?!

no i don't have any hidden at the moment.
how can i change the amount of ram jdownloader can use? |

|

|

You can modify .vmoptions and change/add
-Xmx1g to limit to 1GB max. But there is no need to if you ask me

wells its using too much memory, i have to close it whenever i want to start a game.
currently using 1.5gb of ram |

then close it, or adjust the .vmoptions or some times known as JDownloader.properties (at least on my system)

how do i set it to 500mb?
-Xmx500m ? |

I tried to delete those files that named ".vmoptions" - sometime 2 file or 4 files.
The problem has been resolved more than I was expected before |

@Tyler: yes
-Xmx500m = 500Mbyte -Xmx1G = 1Gbyte
