There are updates that can be installed in background and others require a restart. With "Do ask me before installing an update" there will always be a dialog to confirm the installation of update.
Disable *install updates silently if possible*. Then JDownloader will just check for updates and prepare them but not install *silently* which causes dialog to show up because you enforce to *ask before installing*

Today there has been 3 updates already and you will see the dialog each time. Please check my previous post to disable *install updates silently if possible*. then there should be no automatic dialog anymore

The about dialog of JDownloader shows the build date, so you know if the version is from today, few minutes, today morning or yesterday or longer.
