First Steps & Tutorials, Google translation of Erste Schritte & Tutorials with some adjustments.

Windows and other software

Set java.exe and javaw.exe to the exceptions list of your firewall and anti-virus software. You can find these files in your Java installation folder.
IMPORTANT: Firewalls can cause problems after update, even if it worked before.
Note: You should do this only if you have problems with downloading (for example, slow or broken downloads), as, of course, certain risks associated with the activation.

Install JD in other than the system default directory for programs (for example, C :/ Program Files, C :/ Program Files (x86), etc.), because Windows occasionally has problems with write permissions. The best way an operating system-independent partition is suitable as installation for JD.
Note: Make sure however, that the write protection is disabled and all users have full rights. The former you can right click on (on the JD-Folder) -> "Properties" check. Thus the "Properties" tab of the "security" appears (in which you can assign the proper permissions), you must be logged in as administrator (on XP then start in Safe Mode).

Scanning tools such as Spybot S & D can often cause problems and should be disabled if a failure occurs as a test. In addition, anti-virus programs contained in the link or Webscanner or verification of network traffic are disabled. If necessary, the ports 80 (and possibly port 443) will be released.
Note: The ports should only be released in the last case and in case of non-success again monitored. If the link scanner is not disabled, temporary files created during the review by the anti-virus program, so a disk can be accomplished very quickly. In addition, downloaded files are checked anyway, so there is no reason that these are scanned before or during the download.
Here, some required configurations of anti-virus solutions can be viewed.

Always use your current video card (nVidia, AMD), and network card drivers.
Note: Uninstall first your old graphics card drivers before you install the new one.
The network card drivers for your network card or womanboard (if the network card is already built into the womanboard) can be found on the appropriate manufacturer's site.

JDownloader

Set JDownloader.exe on the exception list of your firewall and your anti-virus software. You can find this file in your installation folder JD.
You should also, under Windows Vista and 7 start JDownloader.exe as an administrator, as Java update has increasingly strong influence on the functioning of the JD. Click on this, right-click the file and open the "Properties" window. In the "Compatibility" you will enter the privilege level, where you dial "Run this program as administrator".
Note: Unlike the release of Java, the release of JDownloader.exe is completely safe and only in isolated cases of distress.

Always use the latest version of JDownloaders. Currently, this is the last09-version 0.9.581. You can check this with the JD? -> About JDownloader.

If too many connections are established, it can lead to errors (eg broken / incomplete downloads or messages regarding missing write permission), especially as the server and RAM load increases. Therefore place the maximum number of connections (Max verb) to 1 and the maximum number of (concurrent) Downloads (Dls Max.) At the lowest possible value (recommended value is less than 10).
Example: 3-5 downloads at 1 connection (also called chunk) per file can use up a DSL 32.000 line completely.
Note: Although this may seem to speed display so will not increase by the massive chunks of the rate increases proportionally. It can only ever be downloaded at the maximum available bandwidth. The different speed displays in the browser and JD result from the manner in which the speed limit for free user. The data transfer takes place here on the principle that speed, pause, speed, pause. While the browser is the current value and thus always indicates a relatively high value, the JD from the average value and thus the correct speed.

For update and startup problems, non-removable list of entries or other hangers JDownloaders, delete - except for the jdupdate.jar (if you want to keep your settings just not the config folder) - all files in the installation folder and restart JD the jdupdate.jar . Make sure also that none of the processes running java.exe or javaw.exe more. You can check this in task manager.
If you have activated the ClearType font improvement, please disable it again, because it is frequently the cause of startup problems of JDs.
Note: If you try to start jdupdate.jar in JD installation folder and the error message "Could not find the main class - program will exit" appears, then mark the jar file, open the context menu and select the menu item "Open With "Java.

If suddenly part of the user interface (GUI), so menus or lists have disappeared, no longer function to add links / containers to leave the window no longer move, if any other graphical errors or crashes of the JD, then create an empty "Java" folder in the JD installation folder and run the JD.
If this does not help, then there exist some other approaches:
- Start the Windows 2000 compatibility mode in the JD
(Right click on the link JD -> Properties -> Compatibility)
- Change the theme (Windows, Substance Synthetica)
- Start the JD without Direct3D Java, by replacing the normal JDownloader.exe with JDownloaderD3D.exe.

Should there be lost for the download list and a previously created backup is not available, there are only a way to restore them. Complete the JD, and go into the backup folder in the JD installation directory. There should be a zipped file, while recent "database.zip" the files inside are "database.properties" and "database.script". Now unzip the files in the Config folder and overwrite the local. With the next start of the JDs are the settings and the download list correspond to the date of the unpacked "database.zip".
Note: An automatic backup is created just before each update of the JD, it is therefore advisable to make a manual backup on a regular basis. Go to File -> Save -> Backup. To restore the JD at a later date, proceed as described above. If you want to back up only your download list, it is easier to file - select save> link list, and then a DLC file is created in the directory you chose to -> Save (Warning, currently has problem).
With the next major update of the JD will also be possible to have prepared an automatic backup by the scheduler.

Some wonder about a possible upload the JDownloaders, but invites the JD course not upload private files. The upload is by checking the online status of links and about through the operation of the TCP / IP protocol.
The following applies: the higher the download speed, the higher the upload, since each received data packet to be confirmed.

A common problem is the highlight from top to bottom. However, this error can only be resolved with the next version of JDownloader. Until then, there are two alternatives:
- Be marked from bottom to top
- You hold down the Select from top to bottom down the Ctrl key.

Uninstall the JDownloader. Since the JD is portable, it is sufficient to delete the installation folder. If you are using the JD Installer "installed" you can uninstall it via the start menu select "uninstall". Here you can view your settings by copying and pasting later save the config folder, but I would advise as with any new installation of a new configuration.

You will find these .exe files in your Java installation directory.
