[Solved] JDownloader hangs at splash screen after last update[Debian Wheezy]

Yesterday after the update it never passed the slash screen.
killed the proccess, execute again it's the same: It says 'Start controller' and shows the splash screen forever.

If I run it from a terminal it shows:

I just installed a fresh jdownloader and it starts up just fine, but it doesn't seem to recognize download links properly. After copying the old config/database* to new install it hangs in exactly the same spot.

same here, java 1.6_23, since yesterday JD stay at 'controller' after the update...
(last supported version for my windows2000 system, but I never had any trouble since about 5 years I'm using JD)

test uninstall/reinstall with versions 0.9.579 and 0.9.581, works only if I don't do any update...

...but in any cases, all links lost, do not reread correctly previous .jdc files (half of the links have '***' instead of the url or simply disapeared) and do not find the url of newly copied links (say the file is offline/doesn't exist)

susbsidiary questions:
- where can we find exe of older versions of JD?
- can we convert .jdc files to simple text or html files?

I can confirm what OreganoOnTop says. I did a fresh install and it works, but if I copy the old config folder I get same result. So my original problem is the same as his and it appears to be configuration related.

My java version is: "1.6.0_27"

Any idea what went wrong and how to solve it?

I asked Jiaz to look into this yesterday, He changed some source code and submitted new updates. We did have another thread about this issue disappeared, maybe caught up in spam removal (by mistake). Doesn't seem to be linked to particular java version or operating systems.

Have you tried closing any jd processes (if still running)
Goto the install directory, run jdupdate.jar ?

start jd via console/cmd
java -Xmx512m -jar JDownloader.jar -debug

as JD doesn't load you will need to copy paste the console output to http://jdownloader.org/pastebin/ . please report back with pastebin url so we can analyse.

My JDownloader didn't recognize the download links because it was still updating the decrypters for hosters. After completing that it works fine. So that was not a problem.

However with the new install I have noticed that JDownloader is roughly 10 times more responsive. I can't get my old install up for measurements, but I'll try to describe the difference.

The UI of new install clearly does not have several seconds lag with each and every button click, like with my old install. I'm running Debian on old Atom 1.6 single core, which seems to more than enough for a fresh install. Example: selecting a download with right mouse button, change package name, hit key, return takes now maybe 3 seconds. With my old install this would take 20...30 seconds. My downloads list has maybe two screens of enties. Now that I think about it, I add new links a the top and some of the stuff at the bottom might be incredibly old. I don't know if the downloads database can get more ineffective over time, but i suspect something has happened to old and ineffective database during the latest update.

What is different from yesterday: new install of jdownloader sometimes nags about available updates, to which I said cancel. Yesterday I copied over all files from config, not just the database*. I also run it with root account. I tried running it without root account, then it also started fine butupdate button doesn't work and debug at console shows exception on update immediately after startup. I'll restart and try if it behaves the same.

I have also checked none of Java processes are to be found between my runs of JDownloader.

After restart my new install seems to fine, and I'm happy that it runs so much snappier than my old install, even with the same downloads-listing. The old install still hangs in exactly the same phase, but as it is so slow I'm not going to miss it.

Currently my workaround of doing fresh install and copying over the config/database* from old install works well enough for me. I'm little troubled that check for new updates does nothing, but I hope everything works for a while.

Hi raztoki I'll do what you ask but I've isolated the problem(I had a 'before the update JD'):

The problem is ftp links. If you happen to have even a single ftp link when you do the update, it'll hang at splash screen.
Moreover I can't add ftp links to a working 'after the update JD'. JD simply doesn't appear to parse it!

So anyone can generate a 'bad config' for an 'after the update JD'. Simply add an ftp link.

Method:
1)For example using a 'before the update JD' add: **External links are only visible to Support Staff**ftp://debian.las.ic.unicamp.br/debia...o-dlbd/MD5SUMS
2)Exit your old JD and copy that config to an 'after the update JD'

If you have the problem and a 'before the update JD' copy, you can delete your ftp links and copy that config to an 'after the update JD'. It'll work OK.

Well, I don't know where to post since the problem seems to concern both PC, Mac and Linux users, I'm following both... but I don't understand all the things that are said. ;-)

Nevertheless, what I'm doing until a fix is given is :

- add 'intitle:"index of" ' in your google search keywords and find older versions, good luck...

- by now, I'm at 0.9.334 portable version which can reread more completely my .jdc saved files but not all, and more links are detected 'online' but not all

- will try to follow some of the advices given in the 2 posts concerning the problem, but as for now, it changed nothing for me

- still don't understand why older (0.6...0.9) versions don't work as before after I uninstalled anything (?) of the crashed jdownloader and the bad upgrade... (moreover: different versions=>different behaviour of the online/offline detection of the links )

- last minute: made the update from a 0.9334 version, no more freezing at 'splash' screen but still lot of links are detected as 'offline' (which is not the case). In fact, it says 'perimated plugin' then updates, even if I checked 'do not update' then freezing came back after reboot... (idea : do never reboot your JD/computer nomore...)

- waiting for official solution?

please close any jdownloader processes still running (java|javaw)

and start jdupdate.jar from the installation directory.

With today updates the problem is fixed.
If someone cat't start JD, you can go to the install dir and run: java -Xmx512m -jar jdupdate.jar
Alternatively you can copy your config to other place, delete it from install dir, start, update, exit, and copy your old config back.
