Question Hide tray icon (without using windows taskbar settings)

I want to use JDownloader at work, so I don't want others to know that I'm downloading a file. Is there any way to hide system tray icon.

I don't want to modify windows settings for this, because there are some icons in my system tray area whose windows titles are continuosly chaning, so I unchecked the "Hide inactive icons" checkbox.

Cool

If the policy at your work is that you can't download, then I would not rely on any feature that hides jD for cameras or any visual control of your screen.

If your boss is smart (s)he only needs to look at the traffic logs of your IP address in order to know exactly what you're doing during the day.

Our bandwidth is much higher than I am planning to use with JDownloader. If I don't cause any trouble, like throttling bandwidth, and nobody complains about it, it won't be a problem.

The only problem is that the JDownloader icon at the system tray area being shouting "I'm here!". Please suggest me a solution, or add an option to remove system tray icon on the next update.

To add an option, we have to wait for Jiaz back from vacation.
Just curious, if it is removed from system tray, how will you access JD back? And the easiest way (to hide) is to set up in taskbar setting, why don't you want it?

Changing the icon is one way, but I don't know how.

I can access it with a key combination.

I don't want to hide it via taskbar setting, that way the icon is not completely hidden. And some other icons are hidden too that way (Windows stores widow titles of the icons to map decide which icon to hide, so if an icons window title is continuosly changing, windows cannot manage it. Also if I chosse the setting to display download rate at the window title of JDownloader, I can't hide JDownloader icon too). There is one more reason, sometimes my coworkers come and we together work on the same PC. In a case like these it is inevitable that they realize I'm downloading.

I hope you add this feature.

Heyas..

it's an old thread I know, but I would like to have this feature too.
I don't need or use the trayicon because I keep the window open all the time I'm using JD. It is also messing up my systray a little bit. Every time i start JD my kmix icon won't show up anymore and leaves a blank spot in my tray even after closing JD again. I'm using openbox with tint2 panel if someone wants to test it.
Is there any way to get this feature in a future release? I would appreciate it ^^

I'm sorry but such a feature is not planed.
The admin will always be able to find out if someone downloads at work. You will certainly loose your job if your boss finds out.

Sorry to bring up an old post.. but if posible, a boss key would be awesome. To hide the tray icon, nothing else. Like msgplus! that you can configure a combinations of keys to hide and un-hide messenger.
I download porn, and and I don't want my brother, father, or woman to double click at the jdowloader icon and see what I am downloading. You can call it "parent key" if you like. It doesn't need to be use exclusively on offices.

It is much like "If nobody knows, nothing will happen". So if I could have hidden the tray icon, it would have helped me very much.

Cool

A file renaming feature might do wonders here. With this feature you could rename your file "Anna's Teeny Porn in Hollywood" into "Pope and Taliban blame pedophilia on society, not priests" or something like that.

matias, just secure your machine appropriately (use a good password, lock the machine if you are away, ...). or grow some balls and stand to the fact that you watch porn.

The problem is not about what you are downloading, it is about whether you are downloading or not.

Sometimes I need to call my manager and show something on the screen, or do something on the PC. He may notice the tray icon and ask what it is.

hkBattousai, my answer was to matias666, read his post and you'll understand mine. But I understand now that I confused your and his situation in one, I think he didn't ask for hiding it at his job, probably because he's still going to school. :-)

And I don't know where you work, but if the admins there are worth their money, they'll find out in no time.

Sorry to say that, but on Mac the icon of jDownloader looks ugly and incompatible with anything in the menu bar. Is there a way to remove or repaint it for Mac?
