Smile Jdownloader options?

I was wondering if Jdownloader has any of the following options or if forthcoming revisions might be incorporating them. If they exist, can someone tell me how to use them?

1) Rename a file before downloading. This might be handy since I feel more uploads will have garbage as their descriptions to avoid being purged so quickly. Preferrably in linkgrabber after obtaining the file.

2) Changing directories. Currently it seems that I need to go to setup and change the directory there and restart jdownloader to get it to take effect. It would be nice to be able to do it again in linkgrabber at the same time being able to change the name. That way I separate pdfs, software, movies and etc. from each other.

3) The option also to not unrar a file. Sometimes when downloading software from a poster you are not familiar with, you'd like to scan the file before unpacking. Most movie files are okay but software is another question.

Just thought these options might come in handy if they are not currently available but if they are, could someone tell me how to do it?

Thanks for a great job. I know it's a very thankless and unappreciated effort at times from the users behalf. Sometimes we forget that we didn't pay for jdownloader and yet we demand perfection and instant corrections.

So on behalf of all us at times whinnie users, i'd like to say a great big THANK YOU for all your efforts.

1) the new package customiser (within our next major update) has the ability to set custom filenames. Not entirely sure how friendly it will be within that interface. But if you want something now, and more advanced/sophisticated I recommend using existing file rename programs, they work and we don't have time to reinvent the wheel ourselves. Think the implementation of filename within the new package customiser will be very simple and static. So mass renaming most likely wont be possible say within one rule.

2) package customiser, use existing or within our next major update you can set custom directories based on regular expression or standard wildcards also for those that do not understand regular expression. Within the current frame work, if downloads have started you will need to restart/reset. Directory or changes to chunks all take place on virgin/reset downloads within stable/beta.

3) not sure of the sequence of events (I do not use auto unpacking myself), but most commercial protection software has the ability to look inside compression volumes assuming they are not locked/password protected. Either way Live scanning from the antivirus scanner should take place at some point after extracting as most products also have that feature under live scan, they detect when new files are recorded to disk. I would suspect that 99% of the time the extracted files are safe on disk even if they are a virus until something executes them. JD doesn't execute files itself (unless you tell it too (open file), but that's for the original download file and not the extracted data). I could be completely wrong on this as I do not run software based antivirus/firewall software myself.

and to your latter comments, you're most welcome.

In linkchecker, select a package and double click. You can then change the "save to" folder, either by "selecting" (on your hard disk) or using the down arrow to choose a recently used one.

Several years ago, JD would suggest folders based on your previous choices, and it was quite useful, but that feature was lost in the major revamp.

You can also untick the "extract" checkbox to prevent unrarring.

You can do this in the download mode too, though you can't change the save folder if the download is in progress.

Also r-click on a package (or several packages) and "edit directory" is another way to change the save-to" folder.
Though just unrarring a file, even malware, won't execute it, so it's quite safe. But for some things, it's convenient to leave them archived, e.g. comic book archives that you can read with CDisplay et al.
