.AAC is raw AAC format
.M4A = Mpeg4Audio Container with AAC codec
You've got to download as m4a. It's the same audio stream just embedded into an m4a container

Excuse me, why was my posting edited and removed?
Now the background information is completely missing.

I know and this was exactly my questions you removed from my posting.
HOW do I do that with JD?
Such an option is not offered, only AAC in an ADTS container is available.
Can I tweak the ffmpeg setting that the output is M4A instead of ADTS?

In dropdown menu in Variant column , just select m4a and not aac.
m4a also should be the default selected quality.

I've removed most of the post as the underlying problem was aac!=m4a file and had nothing to do with video site

There is nothing to tweak, just select the m4a container and not aac

Great, thanks a lot. That worked fine.

May I ask another related question or do I need an own thread for it?

I can download the preview image from YouTube as well.
Would it be somehow possible to include the preview image into the M4A container automatically with ffmpeg?

Preview Image is supported, yes. Should be enabled by default.
Embedding into video/audio file is not yet supported and must be done with help of external tools,like ffmpeg
