I changed the .vmoptions files and when I start up it took a long time to load up and start downloads. It also wasn't responding to the start downloads command in linkgrabber. I entered my previous settings to see if that would still work and the linkgrabber list is now gone. I tried to load the biggest zip file for linkgrabber with load container and it didn't do anything. Backup files did nothing too. I just want to get back the original settings and linkgrabber list.
I backed up the zip file that was the biggest size and there's a few backup files too. I added the log file here 09.06.18 15.50.30 <--> 09.06.18 16.02.01 jdlog://0044954433151/ Last edited by Matts76; 12.06.2018 at 01:55. Reason: added info |

Tonight I went back to the 1g setting and no more slow start but links are still gone in linkgrabber. I renamed the zip file that should have them to the highest number too and no luck. I did try to open the zip and it said it was broken and showed one file in it compared to the download ones which have many. I tried to open one of those backup files with wordpad and it opened but it was all in code.
Is there anyway to restore the linkgrabber list that I had from the backup files? Last edited by Matts76; 15.06.2018 at 00:09. Reason: add info |

Hello Mats76, please let me make ONE Post in german please, i have the same prob here in Germany, but i cant unpack the rar file.....GRRRRR
???? Last edited by Vanillo; 15.06.2018 at 10:50. |

STOP =))
I have saved my old files before reinstall but forgot it looool. jDownloader works again now.

@Matts76: On Post 21, where JD is slow...JD got limited to 256mb of memory and that caused all the issues
In Post 22 you've increased memory again but JDownloader doesn't auto import older backup files. you can easily drag/drop them back into JDownloader or use the load container feature. You can also copy the .backup file back to name without .back and make it have the highest number (this will enforce JDownloader to read this file). JDownloader must not be running when you do this!

@Vanillo:

You need to replace the content of the folder ?
"JDownloader 2.0\tools\Windows\ffmpeg\i386" With the files you gave to us from the "ffmpeg-N-86763-g341f012-win32-static_legacy.7z" |

So, ok, i replace the two files and it's working, but we replace 200KB files with 55MB files ???

interesting exchange for people who use Windows XP !
In german is too difficult to follow. But, im curious to know if you will stop windows XP support ? I gave an answer about ffmpeg -> https://board.jdownloader.org/showthread.php?t=77660 And finally i used other ffmpeg.exe file from last update of JD2 with a ffmpeg.exe who work from 3 august of 2017 i just replaced: ffmpeg.exe ffprobe.exe And i erased everything else that i found in the folder: "JDownloader 2.0\tools\Windows\ffmpeg\i386" every time i'm thinking about updating JD2, i ask myself if it is a good idea, when everything work well ! So please, if you think about stopping XP support, don't forget to inform us. |

Hopefully it will always be available for XP. I heard a lot of people still use XP as well.

@jdboy: the old files where static ones (no external dll, all in exe) and the updated ones share the dll and that's why the new exe are very small.

@jdboy6 and Matts76: We did not stop supporting XP. JDownloader runs on Java which runs on your OS. So as long as you find a supported/working java version, then JDownloader should run on it as well. That's why JDownloader runs on nearly any hardware/system that supports Java, see https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...bedded-devices
@jdboy6: I recommend to place the old/working version to a different folder than the default JDownloader one and update the paths in Settings-Advanced Settings-search for ffmpeg/ffprobe instead of placing into default folder. That way you keep your working one and not risk the next ffmpeg update to replace your custom ffmpeg binaries instead.

But why you upgrade ffmpeg if it still working ?
(otherwise, i keep a copy somewhere, and i will restore if the problem come again) |
#58
|
||||
|
||||
@jdboy6: it's working fine for *most* of the streams but there are also some sites that rely on newer container/codec features that are failing/unsupported with old ffmpeg and thus the download fails. also updated ffmpeg has updated error handling that can help with some broken stream segments.

So I downloaded and installed the static build and it works again, on WinXP.
Since the ffmpeg files that were in the JD folder were dated 21 May 2018, obviously JD installed them with a recent update. Will JD install new shared builds in place of these in the next update, and break it again? |

That doesn't answer the question I asked.
Unless offering a workaround implies that JD will keep installing files regardless of whether they work on the OS. |

JDownloader still supports those very old/no longer maintained Windows Versions and as long as you have a working Java version, JDownloader should run fine.
But the time may come that we will require a higher minimum version of Java and with it *kill those old OS*. At the moment there are no such plans. But for external tools like ffmpeg we cannot always do extended checks if/how those are still working/compatible on those old OS. If you're unhappy with the solution to prevent update overwriting your custom binaries, then I'm sorry. We're trying to keep compatible with every OS... but you can't expect us to spend time/effort to do the same for used 3rd party applications where the solution is that easy and works fine.

JDownloader does not touch those binaries/paths until we release a new update of those binaries.
In case you're overwriting/replacing files that part of JDownloader file structure, of course those will be replaced/updated in case there is an update for them. That is the reason why we recommend to place customized binaries somewhere else and not simply replace the existing ones

"Customized" implies you are adding your own feature; but if you don't use these builds, none of the ffmpeg functions work at all. These ffmpeg builds should be standard on XP, not a "customization" that most users will have no idea they need or where to find them. |

Anyway, it's not for myself. I've fixed my own installation, but anyone who doesn't know how to hunt down the various threads here and find the special builds and how to stop JD from overwriting them will have no hope. Well, not for you. For me, there is. I've only got one PC, and on that I need to do my work, and for that I have a suite of antique programs, some dating back to 1990. I'm sure it's possible to make them run in some emulation on new OS, but working out how to do that is not trivial. Even worse would be trying to move 25 years of files to new applications. (I have recently been asked to do updates on projects I did in the early 90s.) I may have to do it some time, but so far everything vital works and I don't want to mess with it. I don't ask for any special consideration, but not everyone is just using their PC for internet apps and media player. |

I'd like to thank Jiaz and jdboy6 for the fix. I'm another MS-curmudgeon, who prefers to stick with WinXP. A while ago my jdownloader broke, started getting ffmpeg error messages on about half of all attempts to fetch YT videos. I tried installing a new ffmpeg, same problem. Identified to incompatibility with bcrypt.dll and ntdll.dll, leading into versionitis and registry-hack hell. Thanks a lot ffmpeg guys, not.
Putting the relevant two files from rwijnsma.home.xs4all.nl/files/ffmpeg/ffmpeg-N-86763-g341f012-win32-static_legacy.7z into JDownloader 2.0\tools\Windows\ffmpeg\i386 Works for me. Thanks! I'll deal with any future jdownloader version overwrites of those, if & when they happen. |

ffmpeg fails for you. Did you copy over the JDownloader installation from different system or upgrade your windows version?
according to log, ffmpeg fails to launch. Please check if you can launch tools/Windows/ffmpeg/x64/ffmpeg.exe from your JDownloader directory in cmd.exe

Something must have deleted that file from your system. You can restore it manually by
1.) Close JDownloader 2.) Delete Core.jar file and the folders tmp and update 3.) start JDownloader and it will update itself to latest available version and restore missing files after that the avcodec-58.dll file should be available again

FFMpeg problem
Dear JIAZ, I have the same problem in my JDOWNLOADER 2 from about 2 day.
My conditions is the same from about 15 years and JDOWNLOADER 2 was working very well: PC with O.S. WindowsXP - SP3 - 32 bit & Jdownloader 2 portable and automatically upgraded to v. 23 Jul 2018. If I download any video from YouTube, the dowload starting, but after download the file an error stop the process with line message: "Saltato -FFMpeg Mancante" or "Componente aggiuntivo obsoleto" (my language interface is in italian) On seek of the solution I have tryed your idea on the Jdownloader 2 Forum, and I tryed: 1.) Close JDownloader 2.) Delete Core.jar file and the folders tmp and update 3.) start JDownloader and it will update itself to latest available version and restore missing files after that the avcodec-58.dll file should be available again Yes, the avcodec-58.dll is again in the directory c:\Programmi\_Jdownloader\tools\Windows\ffmpeg\i386\ (in my configuration). Now I try for new download of the same file: - the download not start and the identical error message appear instantly "Saltato -FFMpeg Mancante" !! Now I tryed this: On Jdownloader 2 tab OPTION > OPTION ADVANCED I search the word FFMPEG and I set: - FFmpegSetup: Binary Path Probe to NULL - FFmpegSetup: Binary Path to NULL I close Jdownloader and and restart it. Now I start the download again from YouTube, same video. Jdownloader start the download regularly, BUT at the end of download, the error message appear again: "Saltato -FFMpeg Mancante" !! For what this? This problem is present from 2 day only, and I not changed any configuration of the WindowsXP. Is possible help to me? Many thanks for your interest to my problem. Bye for now. |

Can't download videos in desired format in Windows XP (can't find ffmpeg plugin)
On my old pc I am forced to download videos from YouTube via virtual machine with windows 7, can someone fix it? Other services work without problem.

@radicalchic and EustachyNachy
see https://board.jdownloader.org/showpo...51&postcount=2 @EustachyNachy: no need for virtual machine, just downgrade ffmpeg to a version that still supports windows xp, eg @radicalchic and EustachyNachy alternative download link mega.nz/#!LYNm0ARD!U8_xvNRchJkdJdH1uCHmeMc1WCao6mFwJ7KdonsM2Sk
