please try a newer form of java than 1.7.0_25
preferably oracle based Java 1.8 just came out.

Thank you for the responses. Upgrading Java would be nice, but doing so is not possible with my current repositories (Debian 7, stable). Besides, up until a few months ago, the CAPTCHA sound played normally even in Java 1.6.
Setting up a work-around in the window manager will not be difficult, so that is what I will do. Still, it would be nice if JD2 would just work.
