What do you mean by that?
You could either check if the process is running or not or check for the existance of that .pid file.
Both will only let you know if JD is running or not.
If JD e.g. freezed up you won't be able to tell.
Only if you e.g. make JD do something and check if it responds e.g. by using our
myjdownloader API you could tell 100% if JD is currently running & responsive or not.
