Stupid question, but thought I might ask can anyone with a static IP address do a reconnect? You don't know how frustrating it is if you have a static IP address most ISPs here only provide static ones

Some providers bind your IP adress to the MAC adress of your modem/router. You may change your ip adress, if you change the MAC adress. (Warning: Some providers do not like it, because it may harms their network.)

If it is not possible, change your internet provider which supports dynamic ip adresses or buy a premium accout for your favourite hoster.

Is there any way I can disable that autoreconnect? When I do it, it gives me an annoying message in the top-right corner.

You can use toolbar button to disable JD's automatic reconnection attampts. It will say that reconnection is inactive, but nothing more.
