unreadable text
i have used jdownloader for a wile on win 7 with no real problems but i just switched to linux. i added the PPA to my ubuntu 10.04 system and installed jdownloader from the software center. jdownloader seems to be functioning correctly other than all my text is little blue and red doted vertical lines (i attached an image of what it looks like. Any help fixing this would be great.

In Settings - Basics - Look & Feel, please try changing your "Style" setting (you have to restart JD after changing this). You may have to try more than one. Try changing to one of the "Substance" styles.
If changing the style does not fix the problem, the same page has a wheelchair icon next to a font size setting. Try increasing the text size by 120%, 125%, and 133%. You might want to also check your default font settings for each font size and family. If the smaller sizes use fonts with thin verticals and you have "Cleartext" set instead of "smoothed" or "antialiased" text, this can cause the colour aberration. I believe that several team members use ubuntu. They may have better advice when they are available. |

This is caused by openjdk/wine packages in linux.
1.) use sun java 1.1) sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin 1.2.) sudo update-alternatives --config java or 2.) choose different theme in jdownloader

installing sun java is NOT enough, you have explicit to change default java to sun java as i described above. then all other themes will work too
java -version will show yu what version is used

The available character faces and display are similar between Windows and most Linux distributions. But they are not the same. So, any assumptions about display Gamma, character face (roman, Times roman, or Times new roman are three different faces with unique characteristics). Ventana, Lucida, MS sans, and Arial are all helv family fonts.
PC displays have a Gamma of 2.8. Macs are adjusted to 1.0 within the display. That makes a big difference in the medium grays. At that point, a slight difference in the lettering can make things hard to read. |

its caused by wrong fonts installed by openjdk/wine
