JDownloader crashes without notice
Hey all,
My JDownloader just crashes sometimes without notice and any apparent reason. I mean I cant reproduce the crashes, sometimes it takes 5 hours, sometimes 5 minutes. I must say I dont know how to identify my current version of Java but I could creaat emergency logs file, attached below. Thanks for your help and keep up the great work. EDIT : Log files finally attached ! Last edited by Jiaz; 01.12.2010 at 00:02. |

Your java version is 1.6.0_18.
Please update your java or use another version, because this one is very buggy. I recommend update 17, but you can also try update 21. |

Thank you for the advice remi. I think I found where to DL java 1.6u17, but dont know which one to choose : rpm or no rpm, linux 64 or not 64 ... ? I have on Xubuntu.
Also, before installing a new update of Java, dont I need to uninstall the previous one ? Dont know how to do that either... |

Hey again, I think I could install successfully JRE 1.6u17 since a java -version returns :
java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode) Now I'll see if JD still crashes. Thanks |

Hello again,
Choosing JRE1.6u17 seems to work fine for me since JD did not crash for more than 12 hours on my last attempt. Thank you remi. |

just curious, when it crashes, is JD minimized to tray? I notice for me it crashes almost every time if I have it minimized but if I just leave the window open and use my other windows on top of it, it works fine.

Actually, it did not want to minimize to tray with my previous Java update... I fear that wont help you a lot... |

My jD window is always minimised unless I need it. Minimising the window reduces CPU and memory consumption, so it's an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

ya, it probably does reduce cpu and memory consumption, but if it crashes frequently when I do then it's not really worth it. Honestly, I don't notice it bogging down my system when it's running, either with window interface showing or minimized. Lucky for that.

JD uses very little CPU time or disk accesses when it is minimized to the status bar. Minimizing to the system tray Icon is just for appearance sake.
Even when minimized, the Download Window uses more CPU time than the other windows. I usually change to LinkGrabber before minimizing if I am leaving JD for a while. I also use Ctrl+B to backup the JD database about once per day. |

It is java that crashes very often lately
My temp folder (to view it run: explorer %temp%) and JDownloader folder are filled with log files with a name like hs_err_pid392.log containing a log that starts with:
Code:
# # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6d0b6ae0, pid=392, tid=2620 # # JRE version: 6.0_20-b02 # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (16.3-b01 mixed mode, sharing windows-x86 ) # Problematic frame: # C [awt.dll+0xb6ae0] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # **External links are only visible to Support Staff** # The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code. # See problematic frame for where to report the bug. # |

Please update your graphic card drivers and disable direct3d in java.
In order to disable direct3d, start jD with the following command :- java -Xmx512m -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false -jar JDownloader.jar |

Java version "1.6.0_18" is the worst java update you can imagine. Please use update 17 or 21.
On "**External links are only visible to Support Staff** you'll find an archive of all versions of the JRE. |

Make sure to install the 32 bit JRE, not the 64 bit.
Users have complained about Java JRE 6 update 18, 22, and 23. Java 32 bit JRE 6 update 21 is recommended. You may also have to change to the Sun JDK instead of Open JDK. Unless a program is written explicitly for 64 bit operation, 32 bit operation is usually better. This is especially true of Java programs that require less than 1.5GiB of memory. |

I'm also having a similar issue which has only been occurring the past few days (after using JD for well over a year without a single issue).
A reinstallation of JD didn't fix it. I have tried uninstalling JRE (I was on Update 22) and reinstalling Update 21, but I still have the issue. I've installed the latest versions of my graphics card driver, and that also didn't make a difference. The only change I have made to my system recently is I updated ZoneAlarm to the latest version, but I have allowed Java access to the internet. Does anyone have any ideas? |

I've tried that it doesn't seem to make much difference unfortunately. Incidentally, since I went back to JRE Update 21 it does seem to be much more stable. It's now only crashing every couple of days rather than every couple of hours (which was the case on Update 22).
It's annoying. It stays in the system tray but when I click to open nothing comes up but a small black box. I then have to end the task in task manager. If I check the downloads (for instance as has just happened), nothing has been going on for the past 10 hours, so I guess that's when it must have crashed. |
