which contains a warning about the proxy, which is odd, however I've not got any working logs to compare with. It's possible youku are detecting and disallowing some proxies I guess.

Is the Decrypter error above useful?

Well the error shows basically that you still can't watch the video so either youku recognizes and blocks your proxy or you didn't add your proxy to JD.

What about videos which are not restricted to mainland China.
This one for example: **External links are only visible to Support Staff**....

It plays perfectly well in my browser. Without a proxy, just my genuine German IP. But when I add it to the JD linkgrabber the tiny animation icon starts rotating, then stops, but no download links are being added.

I have created a logfile, but am unsure as to how to add it to my post. Sorry!

I'm not a supporter so I can't see your link. For me it appears older links (1y+) work, but recent ones fail.

The message is incorrect.
Not all videos are blocked. Try this via browser (JD can't find): "**External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Interesting, I wonder if they are *somehow* detecting that a downloader is being used? So streaming works for a proxy, but using a downloader doesn't. So it might not be a proxy issue as such, but something related to how JD is requesting the file?

What I've noticed in the past that the handling of the videos is set when they are created not when streamed. So for example you can download videos from last year without an issue, in the middle of the year they started to enforce the mainland China only restriction and only the videos since then have stopped working. Let me try re-downloading something from last month and see if that works ..

Depends on which video.
It's not about they detect JD.
JD's decrypter can not find the video file.
For mainland China only video, we need working China's proxy.

Which brings us back to the proxy service being detected (as it's definitely working, I can geolocate on the proxied IP into mainland China) . I'm using **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff** - I've contacted them but no response yet.

I don't understand, what are you talking about actually?

I'm suggesting that Youku might be detecting some proxies (by IP range or something) and disallowing them (treating them as not being in mainland China) as the proxy/vpn service I'm using is certainly working OK for other sites. That would match with your suggestion that the error isn't on the JD side. Obviously I'm just speculating though, would be good to have more feedback from others with the issue.

Well it's simple to find out:
Test the proxy via browser -> It it works there, it should also work in JD, if it doesn't work via browser it won't work via JD either

Sorry for delay, holidays and all that.
I tried streaming in the browser and that worked. So it does seem it's related to JD after all. Note, although I kept saying proxy, I'm actually using a VPN (given above) - so I don't have any setting in JD, it just uses the current connection. This has been working fine 'til now. The JD version I'm using is 0.9.581, I do tend to update regularly, has anything changed recently that could have broken this?

But it doesn't really matter (and these are videos not limited to mainland China). I picked several other links at random and the answer is always the same. It worked perfectly (with and without a proxy) until about two weeks ago. And then suddenly nada.


jdownloader works great on my system otherwise btw

PS: What I did in the past when encountering a "mainland China" only video from youku was to put a Chinese proxy in jd to detect the stream (with my regular German IP nothing was found).
However I then had to uncheck the proxy (and restart jd) and use my own IP to start the download! That wouldn't start with the Chinese IP.
A bit odd but it worked. Now using a Chinese proxy doesn't help either.
(and anyway not necessary in the example link given above)

If you need a reliable VPN/Proxy to debug this I'm happy to donate the cost of 1 month of the VPN I mentioned earlier if it helps and there's a reasonable way to do so.

My usage has been similar to Mattthecat (but VPN rather than proxy), I create VPN, grab the links, stop VPN, and then download on normal connection. The IP check seems to be only of the initial link, once you have that you can (could) download the files at full rate from any IP.

Temporary fix for non restricted videos has been applied, wait for plugin update and try.
Restricted videos might also be affected, please try (with proxy for non mainland China users).
