I'd go to say there is a reason why there isn't a X in this version. I would recommend upgrading to JDownloader 2 (click the upgrade link top right hand corner). In JDownloader 2.0 you can disable advertising in advanced setting.

There is actually a way in JDownloader 09 as well.

1. Create a File at cfg/premium/config.properties (if it exists, open it in a text editor)
2. Ad an entry UPLOADED_AD_VISIBLE2=false
3. Save and restart JD
