Default hmmm...this may be a silly question but....

not overly familiar with this prog. i use a wireless modem and live in australia (anyone that has delt with telstra may see why thats relevant), when j.d. gets a new ip or reconnect does that count as another call on the phoneline like unplugging the modem?
i have no idea how this downloader works, cheers to anyone that could enlighten me

when jd reconnects your line/modem this SHOULD be the same thing like loosing the connection from isp side.

do you pay your isp by connect?

do you connect via pppoe or bigpond?

unless your fare structure is completely different in australia than in europe this should make no difference.

i assume your not connecting via an analog modem!?! o0

cheers for replying, we pay per phone call. if i turn off my dlink adsl modem i get charged as it has to dial out to the server. the isp only charges for download useage. hope that helps.

so let me get this straight:

1. you are charged per call (say 1$ or something) every time you connect to the internet

2. you are additionally charged for the amount of data you downloaded (like 5 bucks per gig or something)

so if you call once and download nothing you would pay exactly the 1$ for the calling and that's it REGARDLESS OF HOW LONG you are online.

i guess that means that the provider does not disconnect you after a defined time. otherwise this would mean that you would have to pay for your provider disconnecting you (is that the case?).

i guess if your actually have to pay a fee for every connecting you, dear sir, are likeed.

of course the whole fun in jd is that it is reconnecting for you as a freeuser.

don't get me wrong, my logic could be faulty.

i'm not the slightest familiar with a fee structure like that (in fact i even never heard of).

haha, i must be causing you a headache but thanks for trying.
im on a capped 20gigs of downloads per month plan. its an isp that has no affiliation with the australian telephone provider (telstra, very shitty company), so to connect to the isp its charged as a phonecall to use the telstra phonelines and the line stays open with no additional charge as long as the modem is on. if j.d. keeps the connection live while swapping ips im alright but if it disconnects and reconnects to get a new dynamic ip from the isp im screwed. hope it helps:unsure:

the third button from the left on top of the window enables/disables the auto reconnect.

Cool

Nice discussion. I've always thought that Australia was at the other side of the universe

My job involves wireless communication, here in my country, most wireless internet through either mobile phone operators or wifi or wimax operators/ISP limit their subscriber per month download limit. My ADSL land line has no such limit yet (probably not yet).
