Default Facebook download video in HD quality (720p/1080p)

Jdownloader is not downloading facebook videos in HD format, it's only able to download in the lowest quality. Anyone can help?

Hi,
please use our boardsearch to find related threads.
Short summary:
1. Some videos cannot be downloaded in HD via JD although HD is aailable via website.
2. Without example URLs and a log there is no way we can help.

Please post your log-ID here | bitte poste deine Log-ID hier.

Hello, if video is 18+ blocked or just private like this:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
jdownloader can't download hd version of this video even if I logged in.

HD versions of these video is available only in webm (I saw it in chrome network requests page) and without sound.

UPD: I can't even download non-private video in HD, for example:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

I have jDownloader core 43833, launcher 5199, appwork 3470, browser 43829, update module 955

It has nothing todo with +18/private/public videos it is the type of streaming used here.
Ticket:

Do not expect a fix for this in the near future.
If you're lucky you can download the higher quality versions e.g. via this way.

With the next update, JD should at least get up to 720p for some videos where it only downloaded lower resolutions before.

Thank you for the update
I still have a problem with good/best resolutions by facebook. For example:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
JD grabs only the version 640x360 und NOT the better resolution (854x480).
The same story with the other 10-15 facebook videos.

Nein dieser Thread ist ok.
Wie hier erklärt kann JD aktuell bei einigen Videos nicht die höchstmögliche Qualitätsstufe herunterladen.
Bitte keinen Bugfix in naher Zukunft erwarten.

Hello,

Here is an exemple : **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff** | **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

If I add it into JDownloader2, according to the logs, it downloads directly this URI without letting the choice in quality :
Code:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff**
This URI actually corresponds to a 360p video although the video can be viewed with 1080p def. from a web browser.

Here is how we can manually get these higher quality streams :
In the html source of the page, search for the "script" element containing the word/parameter "dash_manifest" and extract its content.
(see attached file : 01-sourcepage.html)

Beautified element content in attached file : 02-script_element.js

Then extract the dash_manifest parameter value (between quotes). See attached file : 03-dash_manifest_raw.xml

For better human readability, follow these steps :
- Replace \x3C with <
- Replace \" with "
- Replace \n with nothing or linefeed
- Beautify xml code

Result :
Spoiler:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>

Different quality audio and video URI are now avalaible/usable in each "Representation" element. In this exemple, only 1 audio quality is avalaible as there are 6 for video (from 144p to 1080p).
Download video and audio separately then remux with ffmpeg.

So far, this procedure hasn't failed me yet.

Is it possible to automate this in JD ?

@Slaash
In other threads we've already explained that that is split video/audio and we're unable to auto handle this at this moment.
Also you don't have to go your complicated way - you can simply use this way and let the linked addon detect the streams while playing -> Download via JD if you want -> Once done, use FFmpeg to merge the separated video- and audiofiles.

It is very interesting, but at the moment If I want to make DWHelper detect a FB video, DWhelper does not detect anything.

Please check this direct FB video link in a sample profile:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

I tried to follow this tutorial: https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...aming-websites (JD team tutorial)

And I use DWHelper generally if there is no other way. But this time it is weird.
But for example this link was detected without problems for me: **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

What is more, this file: **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff** was downloaded as an completely empty file. Can You check this as well please ? A few more files like this, from this sample profile were downloaded by me, and some of them (30%) are not readable. Even the file names are a bit different (JD adds a profile name in the file names for these bad files). So it is not for example (good file): "2020-03-03_100002618142821_2634714679959111.mp4" but (bad file): "2020-03-01_Leszek ¯±d³o_Leszek ¯±d³o_2630044917092754.mp4" (these are two different ID's but the convention is here important).

What can be wrong here ?

As explained in our tutorial, that browser extension works for most of all websites but not for all!
Unfortunately it seems like it doesn't work for Facebook and/or for the type of streaming that FB is using.

This- and all of your other links is downloadable just fine via JD here.
I've test-downloaded your first two URLs and got the 720p quality which is the highest available for these individual videos according to the individual Facebook video pages.
...so there is no need to use any other software to download those.

Please keep in mind that the initial report of this thread was not that JD is never able to download HD/best quality - it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't!
This depends on the available streaming types of individual FB videos!

I'm unable to reproduce this.
That video is ~250MiB in size and is downloadable- and playable just fine here.
Also all filenames have the same naming scheme here and I'm unable to find any issue.
Please post a log if you can reproduce any of your described issues.

Please post your log-ID here | bitte poste deine Log-ID hier.

Additional information:
Please make sure that the following setting is enabled:
Settings -> Plugins -> facebook.com -> Prefer HD (this is only applied for all URLs added AFTER changing that setting!, default=enabled!).

Your last link (the ~250MiB file) even get's downloaded in 1080p via JD here...

Yes, I have enabled this option. I have no problem with HQ.

The problem with naming scheme was for few files/videos.
But I removed empty files, and redownloaded them. Now it works.

So JD works for FB, but the first issue was JD downloaded few files that were totally empty and with other naming scheme.

Moreover, I don't know why, videos are downloaded with max about 35KB/s ; /
Is this "ok" for FB videos here ?

Sometimes videos are downloading and then stop saying for example, that the file is currently unavailable or that the plugin is outdated. What's interesting is the fact that when I try to disable affected links and reenable them, downloading works again.

These wrongly, badly downloaded videos had also .tmp files with them on my disk, but in JD they disappeared as they were downloaded (?).

1. Check this:
https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...-downloadspeed
2. FB speed-limits some videos.
The only thing you can do in this case is to try to reset those and try again with a lot of chunks/connections e.g. 10:
https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...ections-chunks

Exclamation

Here are logs - from today and yesterday:
HTML Code:
23.04.21 14.51.50 <--> 23.04.21 14.51.44 jdlog://3201825302851/
Screenshot from downloading one of files:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Unfortunately, as You see, the naming scheme is different for this one file (why this one ?) and it happens totally random.

The file was downloaded successfully but it's not readable at all - it is empty.
Look what JD did while downloading this file:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff**

So the file was downloaded - 100%, and it is not visible in JD. But on the disk there are two files. One is MP4 and the second one is a temporary file. The MP4 is empty. The temp file consists of good header from what I see, but can't say if it is a whole file that was downloaded.

The screenshot shows these files:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Sincerely, I don't know why it happens, but it is not "by accident".
It happend at least three or four times as I wanted to download certain files from FB, from one channel/profile.

I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce any issue and the log also doesn't contain any issue and the screenshot of the two different files also don't match. the .part file is much less in filesize and also different filename than the final file!
Have you checked your filesystem for errors?
If you want we can check together via Teamviewer, just contact us via support@jdownloader.org

These were not a system or disk errors.
It's probably a VPN issue due to changing or hanging servers connection I suppose.

Finally I got the file downloaded. Finally after the 5th time : ]

But thanks for suggestions. Next time I will try to check such problems with VPN, because more often some connections does not work well.

As said we were unable to reproduce this issue and so far you're the only user who has reported these issues.

If it happens again and/or you find a way to reproduce this, please contact us again.

Hi!
I don't know do I need to start new subject or I can write here, but my questions if about downloading HD video from Facebook.

I need to download a lot of videos from private facebook group.
I know that JD can download videos and it's wonderful but it does it only in LOW quality 360p.
I've read many threads and I know that JD can't combine audio and video.

I want to ask. Can JD linkcrawler define links to FB high quality video and audio, put them in one container (package) in JD and then I can download it and I will know that in one folder I will have only one video and one audio stream. It will allow me to combine them very simple.

Also I think, that it maybe can be setted in EventScripter, I mean combine audio and video stream after downloading files from FB. Facebook containers could have mark like "FB_A+V-need-to-combine" or something similar.

Also I know that "video downloader - CocoCut" extension for Chrome can determine needed streams.
And I know that IDM the latest versions can determine video + audio streams and when I download the video from private group it has name from FB video title and ready to use video file already with audio. I think IDM combine it by ourselves.

As I read above, I see that links to streams already in HTML code, just need to find correct pair of links, clean up backslashes, import them to JD linkcrawler and set them one container.

How do you think, is it real, at least download HD stream and audio by default, even if it will be two different files in one container?
Thanks!

Also, I've noticed, that youtube dlp can download videos with command something like:
yt-dlp -f bestvideo+bestaudio --cookies "h:\Downloads\06d9d8cb-60bc-4038-bde2-6c953136de63.txt" **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Maybe it will be helpful and youtube dl (yt-dlp) can be added to your software for downloading facebook videos.
It downloads not all video, as I've noticed, but it possible for this CLI software to automatically determine streams, download and combine video+audio.

Command like this will allow to get links to FB files, that needs to download:
"yt-dlp -f bestvideo+bestaudio --cookies "h:\Downloads\06d9d8cb-60bc-4038-bde2-6c953136de63.txt" -g -a "fblist.txt""

@izofox: maybe you can provide a high quality public shared video I can check on? I finally have some time to work on the required changes to support split video/audio streaming so would like to have some example links

Hi @Jiaz:
I think I can find some videos at facebook. The problem certainly with LIVE recorded videos.
As example this video can be downloaded with JD only in 360p:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

There are just some samples, so don't take in mind about their content.
You can find more using this link
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

They are live recorded videos, available at FB in more than 360p, but JD downloads only 360p. IDM and youtube-dl can download them in highest possible quality.

Thank you for fast reply

Default Facebook video quality

I wanted to download some videos from Facebook Live.

E.g.
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Loading into JD, it offers one MP4 video,
JD had no other choices, I was expecting choices as for Youtube.

The spec of the downloaded video is
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 640x360 30fps 422kbps
Audio: 0x4441 48000Hz mono 62kbps

Looking at the same video using the iOS Facebook app, I think the video shown there is higher quality.

Is it just FB only offers the hi res via its app? Or can JD get the higher quality video?

Merged similar threads about Facebook video quality.

@Gweilo
The Facebook Plugin has a quality setting.
Everything else is explained in this thread.

Please use the forum search before posting.

Thanks. Tried searching for "Facebook" in this forum, found 131 threads. Could not tell which one was appropriate, if any. This thread is a year old... but it seems I have the same problem as "Izofox" above.

Anyway, I did already have the "Prefer HD" setting selected, I assume that is the default as I had not looked at it before.
I had expected a quality setting in the Linkgrabber as for Youtube.

Tried it again and still 360p.

No worries.

Youtube is an exception.
Most plugins' quality selection settings are way simpler.

Just to be absolutely clear:
- Facebook provides older streams up to 720p ("HD") but that is different for each video. Streams higher than 720p are always only available via DASH/MPD and can't be downloaded via JDownloader.
- JDownloader can't download such streams yet
- I've also explained this here:
https://board.jdownloader.org/showpo...3&postcount=10
- Your particular video can be streamed/downloaded in max 360p via the old streaming type

So yes the max quality you can download that video in via JD is 360p.
Max available DASH/MPD quality for your video is: 720p.

This won't change in the near future so if you want that video in720p+ you will need to use other tools.
You might be able to download that quality using the following method (without JDownloader!):
