of course I can.

But not all chinese know how to change from english to chinese.

It would be better if there is a JD version using chinese as default language.

@soogoomoo
I don't think such a version will be released in the future.

English is a language that EVERYONE should know (I'm German).

Cool

I think some Chinese people think the opposite. German and English are Indo-German languages and are very similar.

How can Chinese people find and download jD if they don't understand English? As far as I know there's no Chinese version of the jD site.

According to "**External links are only visible to Support Staff** Chinese is the second most popular language on the Internet. Looking at the growth rate of Chinese (1,277% in 10 years), Internet penetration, the numbers of speakers, China's interests in Africa, Chinese will soon overtake English. That's also the reason why Gogol are still closely collaborating with the Chinese regime.

The Chinese market is huge and jD is underestimating its potential.

You can also wait for a Chinese 'entrepreneur' to do that. We already have jdownloader.com. Why not Jxiàzài.cn?

Ummm. Not that I am an expert, although I just starting taking Mandarin classes yesterday.

There are a BOAT load of dialects (no pun intended).

Mandarin
Cantonese
Jin
Huizhou
Wu
Hunanese
Jiangxinese
Hakka
Yue
Ping
Shaojiang
Northern Min
Eastern Min
Central Min
Pu Xian
Southern Min

Not all dialects can be written, not all words in all dialects can be written.

Someone that Speaks Cantonese does not understand Mandarin, and vice versus.

I think ANYONE that uses a computer, should be savvy enough to use the DROP down box and find their native language. I use a lot of Chinese software for cell phone cloning and when the programs support english, it is never the default, and usually hidden.

As long as JD has chinese as an installable option, that should be sufficient.

Maybe Drbits has the text "how to program for a worldwide audience and adjusting for cultural differences" handy and can cite a passage.

Also, any english speaking chinese can correct me if I'm wrong about the dialects.

I think when Jdownloader start the first time on a pc It could ask the user to choose what language he want the program to run on ??
Or maybe in the installation .. Allot of other programs do this.

Yes, but the question is stated in English.

jD could repeat/add the question in the second most important language as well.

Anyway, without a download page translated in Chinese, most Chinese people won't find the program nor the download.

HAHA Remi

A simple work around would be to read the language of the OS, then display the 1st question and set default language for install to that of the OS, if someone wants to change it they can.

As far as I know Java supports reading the Regional settings in all OS's, so it should be trivial to implement. Maybe someone can put it as a bug to be fixed.

Yes, your solution is definitely the best, but it also means that the question becomes redundant.

Customers who want to run jD in another language than their OS's are exceptions. They should therefore change the language in jD's Settings.

What should happen when the language of the OS is not yet supported by jD?

I think my proposition (ask the question in the most important languages) would be the easiest for the customer.

Well there is another option:

Display the question is ALL available languages on the 1st page.
That way people would immediately recognize their language and click install.

I'm waiting on the mind control module, where the program does exactly what the user is thinking, that way all errors and bugs are a result of what the user is thinking and not the program!

Why not use the IP address of the person to guess the most likely language(s). No need for telepathy.

3 Words... Code Scope Creep!

RockinJD

EDIT by Think3r: What? ^^
EDIT by RockniJD: Yep. Code Scope Creep ^^ GeoIP doesn't function 100% of the time, and to get it to work 99% of the time require a TON of code, and fickle databases, unless you use a pay service like Max
