Lightbulb Memory problems

Hello!

I know JD use most of our RAM because of Java, but in any case it must use less memory. Because sometimes on Linux JD uses more than 210 MB ... That is so much for a download manager.

Anyway, you know better than me. But please make the JD more flexible and make most of features as extension(add on plugin), so if a user don't use any feature, will be able to disable them to free the memory. I see that JD's to-do list has many new features, if JD is going like this after years it will use 1 gb of our RAM :D

Thank you!

The JVM itself uses a measly 15MB of RAM. It's the way JD is programmed that makes it use up so much memory. You could try some other download managers if you want, for example FreeRapid Downloader. It's sitting at 70MB memory usage at the moment.

@buggsy

I don't know what you're doing with jD or why Ubuntu needs so much memory, but on my old Windoze PC it consumes only 4.7 MB of RAM at the moment. I've seen values as low as 3 MB in the past. It is downloading and I've too many links stored in it (over 1000); I need to start cleaning. Sometimes it consumes more (up to 100 MB when I restore its window) but I think java's garbage collector keeps it small when its window is minimised.

I've a relatively small RAM memory but I see there's still lots of RAM available. I'm running many programs like a bitTorrent client, a browser, a video player, an audio player+manager+streamer (silent ATM because I'm watching a video), an RTMP video stream recorder, a backup program, a text tool, several cloud drives, a search tool and way too many other programs hiding in the tray.

next major jd update will decrease memory usage a lot.
for testing reasons i could start jd with only 32mb ram. there are many factors that influence the memory usage, and a lot of stuff to do, so we can even lower usage more.

How many links are you storing in jD?

Does jD's memory consumption decrease drastically when you minimise jD's window?

jd should never use more than around 500-600 mb, cause 512 is the max heap.
you can disable unneeded columns that will reduce memory use a little bit
but next majpor update contains a lot changes that reduces memory usage noticeable
