Default What's the status on installing on 64bit Win7?

Very old posts suggest that you have to install JRE 32bit on WIn7-64bit to allow JD to install.

I am setting up a new computer, running Windows7-64 Ultimate, and I already have JDK 7 (which includes JRE), 64 bit, needed by other applications.

Are there any new solutions to installing JD on Win7-64?

Will there be sometime a JD-64bit release?

Just download the updater archive, unzip it, run the updater.jar and you'll have JD2 "installed"
upd0.appwork.org/jcgi/JDownloader
JD doesn't need a real installation.
The programmfolder is nough!

I did what you said.
I extracted jDonwloader.zip manually:
jDownloader did not start right away.
I then ran jUpdate, it did run and updated to version 0.933
Then JD opened and now it is updating 1900 updates.
I'll let you know how it turns up.
So far, it did not complain about jre.

Too bad you marked this thread [SOLVED]. Was too soon to speak.
JD finished the 1900 updates.
A message said it needs to restart because it could not remove obsolete updates
Since then JD did not restart. I waited to see if it started alone, but no.
I tried the JD icon, and nope.
I found 3 javaw running on the task manager, but no UI opened.

News:
clicking on jUpdate opens the UI, congratulation I am now on version 18.666 !!!!!
I don't know, but I am not confident with this installation, nor with the process, something smells fishy
Add my vote to the NO NO to jDownloader on 64bit windows 7.

My JD(2) works fine on Win 7 64 bit.
You do NOT need the 64 bit Java (altough i got it installed and it works).
I also opened a ticket for the installer issue:

OK, thanks.
Regarding JRE, it is not me wanting it or not, other applications, compiled for 64 bit, as they should in a 64 bit OS, use JRE too. JD is odd in this respect because it is not built for 64bit OS.
I don't know why other 32bit softwares run without problem, maybe it is related to JRE (?)

Search, and you'll find this:

the installer for 64bit only works with 64bit java
the 32bit installer only with 32bit java

Thanks, tony2long, it worked.

I downloaded that exe (only trusted it because Jiaz is the originator)
and it did install, got to the part where installation is done and there's a checkbox to run jDownloader.

But jDownloader would not launch, the message is :

Error: User Aborted Installation

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it twice, but it is always the same message.
I tried to run directly from the jDownloader directory (jDownloader, jDownloaderBETA) both gave the same error message.

Finally clicked on jUpdate and it opened a window and started downloading updates, a lot of updates, 5 min downloading updates.

After that jDownloader started, this time it's the right version, 0.9581, and it seems to work fine.

I think Jiaz, or someone from JD, should put this Win7 64bit option in the download page on jdownloader.org (with the latest version in), maybe correct that error message so users don't freak out.

pspzockerscene, now you can mark it as [SOLVED]
