Default New Icons for JD: Help please!

New icons for JD

Jdownloader needs to have a diferent icon for every function.

So, if you can create One Set of Icons, or just for the Functions with Same Icon.

Please answer to this thread.

Thanks.

PS: See Pics

I could do this, but i would need the Tango icons
then merge some of them into some new icons,
Whitch have the same appearance/look.

This would only be for the ones that are duplicated.

Most important is: Are those icons free? Which license to the use? Are they based on tango?

Default Icon Concept

This has been entered in the bug tracker with slight differences. See #19 in this thread.

I think first, you need to decide how you want to represent various forms of link/file (unchecked, available, not found, unavailable, duplicate, downloading, downloaded, and completed) and the same for a package.

Is a package a folder? Nobody has a trademark on a drawing of a 1/3 cut file folder. The same for use of a ladder as an archive. Circles, arrows, disks, and check-marks are also generic. None of this has a specific source.

If you limit to three primary foreground colors (blue=neutral, green=good, Orange=trouble), you avoid color blindness problems (each must be a different brightness)
.
Circle means open middle. Disk means solid.

Once the icons are chosen for states of items,
then a pair of scissors can represent deletion.

The space for icons in the table is 16 pixels high.
The Action icons can be 32 pixels, so there should be space.

Code:
               Link/File Package Archive Unit

unchecked Blue
               Circle N/A N/A

available Green Green Green
               Circle Circle Ladder

not found Orange Orange Orange
               Circle Circle Ladder

temporarilly Blue N/A N/A
unavailable Disk

exact Orange N/A N/A
duplicate Disk

mirror Blue N/A N/A
downloading Hand Mirror

mirror Orange N/A N/A
redundant Hand Mirror

downloading Green Green arrow Green arrow
Down Arrow on Folder on Ladder

download Blue Blue arrow Blue arrow
temp. failure Down Arrow on Folder on Ladder

download Orange
perm. failure Down Arrow on Folder on Ladder

downloaded Blue
Check Mark on Folder on Ladder

completed Green
Check Mark on Folder on Ladder
If you like the ideas and the parallelism, then let me know.
I can draw these for you in Photoshop. I would draw them 128x128 and then resize as appropriate (the reduction creates some anti-aliasing that makes it look nicer). The originals would be PSD to preserve layers (such as for adding scissors, hands, usw.).

Saving as PNG would be no problem.

Topic is rather old, but the icons used look like the silk icon set which is free

This is the first time anybody has volunteered for icons in two months. Please read the thread.

Take a look at the list I have above. Those are the icons we need for the status of a link or of a package (archives aren't implemented yet). We also are looking for better icons for the add-ons, most of the commands, etc. The icons have to either be freely usable (no trademark) or usable under a GPL license.

See #19 for more information about status

The silk icons are a good source of material and inspiration. We have our own unique status to report. One of the things to remember is that 16 bit, 16 color icons are almost always free, because there is not enough there for people to tell if it is theirs. However, we need icons that look almost the same at 16 bits and 32 bits (48 and 64 would be nice, but are not necessary right now). Also, we need to easily distinguish shapes for "Unchecked", "Available", "Not found", "Duplicate", "Waiting", "Downloading", "Partially downloaded", "Paused", "Stopped", "Temporary failure", "Permanent failure", "Disabled by user", "Downloaded", "Mirror downloading", "Mirror downloaded", "Incomplete archive", and "Finished".

Those are the statuses for Links. Some of those also apply to Packages and a future construct (an Archive unit). For instance Finished isn't really a status for a Link, but for an Archive unit (or Package).

"Unchecked", "Available", "Not found", and "Duplicate" are LinkGrabber statuses for Links.

A mirror is another link that downloads to the same directory and file. An incomplete archive is a set of links for a RAR or HJsplit that are missing some parts. Again, this really applies to an Archive unit or Package.

"Waiting", "Downloading", "Temporary failure", "Permanent failure", and "Downloaded" are statuses for links (and reflected in the package) to indicate the status of a download. Finished is a status for an archive unit or a package.

"Partially downloaded" means that the file started downloading, but was stopped. This is only used when the download can be resumed later. If the host doesn't allow resuming, then this becomes a Temporary failure.

"Paused", "Stopped", and "Disabled by user" reflect user actions.
----------------------------
We also need a button for each action. Many button images will be based on the status icons. Those defining a theme will change the buttons to suit the skin, so we are really just defining an image to go on the button and a default 3D button image to combine with it.

A lot of the buttons will be toggles (a Start / Stop toggle, an Clipboard toggle, etc.).

We also have to be aware of the issues of color blindness (red-green and yellow-blue). Also, the icons have to be more distinguishable than the Silk icons, because users don't always see well enough to tell what different 6 pixel changes mean on a 16 pixel icon.

So, goldengle, vivalostioz, and LordSteiner, will you have some samples soon?

Default Bugreport: New Status values

This replaces Posts 13 and 18 in this thread.
This was submitted to the bug tracker, but change is still possible.

1) Types of objects:
Link (two chain links),
Package (file folder), and
Download Unit (file cabinet)
2) Status for a link. Packages and Download Units get the union of the links error status or the links success status if no error status.

Code:
Status Icon Numeric Value (Hex)

(Success so far)
(Propogate to containing object if no User Action Required)
Completed Green Check Mark over icon 80 00 00 00
Downloaded Blue Check Mark over icon 40 00 00 00
Downloading Green down arrow over icon 20 00 00 00
Actively waiting Green analog clock 08 00 00 00
Available Green item icon in Linkgrabber 02 00 00 00

(Do no know what will happen)
Unchecked Blue item icon 00 80 00 00
Temporarily unavailable Blue analog clock 00 20 00 00
Mirror downloading Blue Hand Mirror 00 08 00 00
Download temporary failure Blue down arrow over icon 00 02 00 00

(User action required - Propogate to containing object)
Retried temporary failure Orange down arrow over icon 00 00 80 00
Downloaded processing error Orange check mark over icon 00 00 20 00
Access Pasword Needed Orange Key 00 00 08 00
Download permanent failure Orange box around icon 00 00 02 00

(Dead)
Mirror download complete Orange Hand Mirror 00 00 00 80
Exact duplicate Double orange item icons 00 00 00 20
Not found Orange Item Icon 00 00 00 08
Disabled (manually) 25% Grey background 00 00 00 01
Note: Colors are chosen to avoid color blindness problems (no red or yellow)
Green = Good
Blue = Do no know (DK)
Orange = Bad

Each grouping has its own two hex digits, with room to spare.

Will require standardized responses from Host plugins (Raw string, processed string, hex code, HTTP code). Status names are language dependent. Hex codes are not language dependent and should be used for sorting. Processed string is a longer list than this one, and is language dependent. Raw string and the two numeric codes should be available in Properties.

"Downloaded processing error" may serve too many purposes:
Split reassembly failed
Split missing parts
Archive extraction failed
Archive missing parts
Archive password wrong
Archive needa password from user
File contents do not match extension

"Download temporary failure" is a failure in the download, including
Host not accessible (Enters wait with host locked out)
Host busy (or no slots available) (Enters wait with host locked out)
Cannot write to disk
CRC error on download
Incomplete download

"Retried temporary failure" is a "Download temporary failure" that has been retried, but has run out of retries.
