Default Feature Request: User should be able to add (random) delays between downloads

I think, I should not write any more requests today...

So, this is the last one for today...

Many webpages detect too many downloads in a short period of time and then block the user IP for some time.
That's why with some Download Managers the user can define delays between downloads/requests.

Usually they can choose between a fixed delay of x seconds and a random delay between x and y seconds, where x and y can be entered by the user.

It might make sense to introduce such an option (advanced settings) in JD as well.

Hi,
afaik this is not planned.
You can do this either via EventScripter or by making changes to our source code.

Well, I'm afraid I can't do that - at least not within a reasonable amount of time :(

@StefanM: I don't see any need for this. Users should not have to mess with this advanced settings/value nor experiment with them. It makes more sense in reporting those issues so we can look into it and then add proper detaults AND proper handling for this. In case of vk.com it was not the amount of requests nor the speed, it was a broken error handling that showed up exactly after around 150-160 requests (did not matter of those were fast or slow)

There was no need for such a setting ever and plugins still work fine. I don't see us adding support for this. Ppl report issues like this, we check/fix them for ALL.

Well, the "too many requests within a short period of time" applies to many pages. So, in my eyes such a setting would make sense. But of course, this is your decision and I will accept that.

Will study your answer in https://board.jdownloader.org/showpo...postcount=2238 later. And hope I will understand it

More examples are welcome, especially for websites we already support via plugin...

And if such a site is supported by JDownloader, the plugin should already have proper handling for this. It doesn't make sense for user to *workaround* a plugin that doesn't properly handle limits by experimenting with own settings.

* plus for some plugins we got extra settings for advanced users or for powerusers who will run into limits which "normal" users do not.
Examples:
vk.com
instagram.com
twitter.com

Same for the User-Agent setting:
For some plugins it makes sense to let the user customize this, for most it doesn't.
